Iwakuni Castle

The Iwakuni Castle provides a panoramic view of the entire city stands today as the symbol of this former castle town. The castle was built in the early 17th century by the Kikkawa Hiroie, but torn down just 7 years after its establishment due to the new “One Castle Per Province” rule put into effect by the Tokugawa Shogunate. Today the ferro-concrete construction was reconstructed in 1962 with many artifacts on display including samurai swords and armor for travelers in search a historical touch of Japan. Iwakuni Castle is listed among one of the top 100 great castles of Japan surrounded by a natural defensive moat, different to that of many other feudal castles of Japan.
