Sawanoi Sake Brewery

Sawanoi Sake Brewery is located 90 minutes west of central Tokyo by the Tama River and is surrounded by towering mountains. The brewery has been around for more than 200 years and has been using the pristine water of the Tama River to produce their sake. There are four guided tours per day of the factory, which always ends with a free tasting of the sake. Even though the tour is free you can only participate in one by reservation only. There are English pamphlets available to explain the entire process of making nihonshu (Japanese sake). The oldest buildings of the factory date back to 1702, which lands during the Edo Period (1603-1867). On the tour you can see the original spring from where the brewery gets their water to make their high quality products.
