In the spring of 1598, Toyotomi Hideyoshi
had 700 trees of cherry blossoms planted,
and Sanboin and its garden built to have a
magnificent party, where about 1300 people
including Hideyori (his son), wife, and
mistresses joined him to enjoy the views.
Modeled after this old event, "Ho-Taiko
Hanami Gyoretsu" (Toyotomi Hideyoshi's
cherry blossom-viewing parade) is held on
the second Sunday of every April.
1000 trees of cherry blossoms blooming
here and there in the precinct (world
heritage) are spectacular.
