Fuji Shibazakura Festival is a 1 ½ month long celebration
that usually starts mid-April and finishes at the end of
May. It is a festival that features the moss phlox flower
with Mount Fuji in the background. There are over
800,000 moss phlox (shibazakura) planted throughout
the area. The venue used is three kilometers away from
Lake Motosuko, which is part of the Fuji Five Lakes.
There are five varieties of moss phlox, which are Scarlet
Flame, Autumn Rose, McDaniels Cushion, Tama no
Nagare, and Little Dot. Amongst the pink fields there is a
mound that is meant to be the shibazakura version of
Mount Fuji. Once entering the park you will be taken
flooded with an amazing field of shibazakura. The
Panorama Footbath allows you to enjoy great views of
the field while soaking your feet in hot water.
The Fujiyama Sweets pop-up café is a place where you
can see the field with Mount Fuji in the background while
having some drinks and pastries on the viewing deck. If
the café is not what you are craving then there is the
Mount Fuji Gourmet Festival, which is run onsite. Here
they have a wide variety of food stalls for you to choose
from to satisfy your hunger. After taking your fair share of
photos you can pay for a commemorative photo to add
another memory. There is also a pop up post office where
you can get a commemorative stamp or send a postcard
with the exclusive mark to whoever you want. Of course
there is a souvenir shop in the Fuji Shibazakura Festival
that has limited special items like cherry blossom flavored
goods. It is also the place to buy your very own
shibazakura plant that you can take home with you. In
the souvenir shop there are more goods available that is
limited to only the Fuji Shibazakura Festival so it is best
to not miss out on the opportunity.
