Ashikaga Flower Park (あしかがフラワーパーク) is
located in Ashikaga City, which is on the border of Tochigi
and Gunma Prefecture. It is a place where there is a wide
of flowers planted on the grounds that bloom when they
are in season. The park is mostly known for their wisteria
trees which are called fuji in Japanese. Inside the flower
park is a wisteria tree that is over 100 years old. It is so
large that there many beams to support the branches as
it covers a wide area creating this umbrella effect. It is
said that the tree dates back to about 1870. When it is in
full bloom from mid-April to mid-May is the best time to
see the wisteria tree. The tree has been designated as a
prefectural natural treasure. As you explore the Ashikaga
Flower Park there is an 80-meter-long tunnel of white
wisterias hanging.
Then at night the park is illuminated giving the flowers a
fantasy like feeling. Wisteria flowers are not the only
flowers in the park. There are many azalea bushes,
tulips, roses, iris, pansies, etc. around the park it just
depends on the months you visit. There are a total of
eight floral seasons in Ashikaga Flower Park. In the
winter time the park turns into the Bejeweled Flower
Garden. This means the park is decorated with LED
lights and illuminated at night. Not only do they cover
walkways and flower bushes with LED lights they also
create sets to attach multi-colored to it. The area of the
large and old wisteria tree in the winter time has hanging
LED lights to make it look like the vines when they are in
season. There are also large displays of lights as it
cycles with music and images.
