Kawachi Fujien (Wisteria Garden)

The Kawachi Wisteria Garden is a private garden located in Kitakyushu, famous for its neatly presented wisteria flowers. The flower clusters drop down from the tip of the vine and sway in the direction of the spring breeze. This garden is only open during wisteria bloom season, which ranges from late April to mid May. Approximately 22 types of wisteria trees with a wide variety of colors from white to dark purple grow in the 10,000 square meter area. The wisteria tunnels, one of which is 80 meters, the other 110 meters, are the most popular attractions located here. These tunnels provide visitors with a romantic scenic view so beloved by the locals that it has been composed into Waka, a classic Japanese poem. Besides the wisteria and different kinds of flowers located within this garden, over 700 maple trees surround the area creating a view worth paying for during peak seasons around the end of November.
