With over 77 display tanks and home to Guinness Book of Records breaking acrylic panels, visitors can experience the wonders of the sea like nowhere else. Located within the Ocean Expo Park, the word “Churaumi” can be translated into beautiful seas from the Okinawa dialect, which first opened in 2002. The main Kuroshio Tank stretches 2 floors high, holding over 1.9 gallons of water, which is home to whale sharks and manta rays. The half-dome shape of the displays provides guests a view of the aqua life as if they were looking from the bottom of the sea. A special interactive area offers visitors a close encounter with marine life including starfish, sea cucumbers and varies coral formations, which Churaumi Aquarium is famous for. Be sure to participate in different attractions and learn about the ecosystem at museums, with all the information available in the park’s pamphlet and enjoy an entire day at one of Japan’s most favorite sea parks.
