This museum grants visitors up close views of swords
dating all the way to the Kamakura Period (1185 – 1333)
to present day. Japanese swords are distinguished not
only for their beauty, but their strength as well. Osafune
once flourished with highly-skilled swordsmiths and was
known for its major production of Japanese swords.
Today, the Bizen Osafune Sword Museum keeps that
tradition alive, informing visitors of the history behind
Japanese sword making and its appreciation.
Next to the museum, there is a workshop where
craftsmen and artisans alike exhibit the hardworking
process of making Japanese swords. It is important to
note that Japanese swords have unique qualities, each
component is created and designed by masters of that
stage. The blade, sheath, handle, paint, and any
engravings are each produced by different artisans. The
Bizen Osafune Sword Museum holds many festivals and
sword-making exhibits. It is a lively reminder of the
importance of the preservation of culture and its
magnificence.
