The Lee Ufan Museum opened in 2010, known as one of the newer additions to the Art Island of Naoshima. This museum consists of a special collaboration between internationally renowned Korean Artist Lee Ufan with architect Tadao Ando. The visions of a cave-like museum featuring an open air area infused with the natural surroundings were granted by Tadao Ando, also known as the master architect that designed both the Chichu Museum and Benesse House nearby. Large installations made of stone, concrete and other materials are on display, along with paintings from earlier in Lee’s art career. Visitors can experience the atmosphere hosting both stillness and dynamism, while viewing art at an area infused within a special cocktail of nature, architecture and art. The scenery and quiet atmosphere of art and architecture caters to a wide variety of traveler’s interests, attracting thousands of visitors to visit Naoshima Island in Japan.
