Teshima Art Museum

The Teshima Art Museum stands on a hill overlooking the Seto Inland Sea is regarded as the main attraction of Teshima Island. Visitors can experience art with natural aspects heavily influencing the overall experience, whether its rain or snow, bird chirps or an insect’s fluttering wings. The vision of Rei Naito was granted by architect Ryue Nishizawa and opened in 2010, houses only 1 master artwork by Rei Naito titled “The Matrix” within a space of 40 by 60 meters. Water which continuously dances across the floor of the spacious venue is characterized to the image of the wonders of life on earth. Two oval openings allow the outside world into the concrete shell creating a naturalistic atmosphere enjoyed by travelers from all over the world. The café designed by Ryue Nishizawa offer guest specialty food and drinks using local farm produces, which is definitely an experience worth investing into. The surrounding terraced rice fields provide a scenic view on this rural island which travelers can tour on rental bicycles in the area.
