The Fukui Dinosaur Museum is the largest dinosaur museum in Japan and is one of the top in the world. The museum is dedicated to the research and education of dinosaurs. It is located in Katsuyama City in Fukui Prefecture. A few kilometers away from the building are the largest and most prolific excavation site in Japan. The museum is a four storied structure where the main floor features the Dinosaur World exhibition. There are more than 40 dinosaur skeletons on displayed with English explanations. In addition, there are several life size animatronic dinosaurs, which include the Tyrannosaurus Rex that greets visitors that enter the exhibit. On the same floor there is the Earth Sciences exhibition where there are hands on exhibits, videos, and educational materials on how life evolved on Earth. The Fukui Dinosaur Museum encourages patrons to pick up and hold real fossils. There is also a research laboratory where you can see scientists and technicians clean fossils. In the spring and fall visitors can participate in outdoor excavation activities around the museum grounds.
