On August 6th, 1945, Hiroshima Prefecture received the marvel of the highest military technology in the world, the atomic bomb. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum was established in 1955 with the main building constructed by famous Japanese architect Kenzo Tange dedicated towards the documentation of this historic and devastating event during World War 2. Varies exhibits in the museum displays collected items and belongings of the fallen victims including photos, clothing, watches and other personal effects. Photos illustrate the effects caused by heat rays and radiation can be viewed as a reminder of the horrific aftermath of war. Clocks and watches which have stopped on the exact time of impact with many metallic objects melted by the heat of the blast are also key exhibitions at the museum. Radiation exposed materials are also shown in specially crafted exhibit cases with detailed descriptions documented for the items. The unique atmosphere expresses and embodies all aspects of grief, anger and pain, while covered by a calming peace. Mass efforts have been put into comforting the spirits of those who lost their lives to the bombings, as well as praying for world peace.
