The Tenryu Valley, situated on the
southern tip of Ina Basin in Nagano, is a
valley created by the erosion of rocks
located in the Ina area over the years.
You can enjoy its magnificent scenery by
going down the valley by boat, while
viewing chains of dynamic cliffs on both
sides, like the Eboshi-iwa and Ryukakuho.
The Tenryu Funa-kudari is a river rafting
tour starting from Benten Port near Ina-
Yawata Station on the Iida Line. You can
enjoy nature to your heart's content on
this rapid stream, going over difficult
sections of the river such as those along
the Garyu Valley, sometimes getting
splashed with water. It takes about 35 min
to the final stop, Tokimata Port, which is
close to Tokimata Station. The vicinity is
famous for azaleas and cherry trees, and
its autumn leaves are also beautiful, the
sight of which attract many visitors.
An approximately 50-minute-long Tenryu
Rhine-kudari boat tour is also available
from Tenryu-kyo Port, during which you can
enjoy traveling slowly down along the calm
stream. During the tour the boat captain
throws a net into the stream to catch
river fish, and if he succeeds, he then
grills the fish right on the boat to serve
to the customers. You can also enjoy the
beauty of the Tenryu-gawa River from Koya-
kyo Bridge near Tenryu Station, as well as
from the hanging bridge, Tsutsuji-bashi,
about 500 meters further down from Koya-
kyo Bridge. A well-maintained walking path
helps you to enjoy a pleasant stroll
around the area.
