Togakure Ninpo Museum

Togakure Ninpo Museum

The Togakure Ninpo Museum can be found across the upper complex of Togakushi Shrine. The Togakure School was founded by a Nagano warrior who fled to Iga after fighting on the losing side of the war between the Minamoto and Taira clans in the 12th century. The warrior learned the ninja skills of the Iga ninjas and then returned to Nagano to open his own school. The museum consists of multiple complexes, one of which displays tools and weapons used by Togakure Ninja with photos of them practicing various techniques. One of the features of the museum is the Ninja House, where outside it looks like an ordinary house, but contains many secret passages, doors, and contraptions inside. For a small fee, visitors can throw shuriken (throwing star) at targets in the throwing range. The Museum of Togakushi Folklore can be found with the same building and exhibits clothing, furniture, tools, and receptacles that were used in the past by the people in the area.
