Akihabara is most known for the many electronic shops located in the area. However, in recent years it has been acknowledged as the capital for the otaku (geek) culture. This means you can find many shops, restaurants, and events that involve anime and manga in the area. On Sundays the main street, Chuo Dori, is closed to car traffic from 13:00 to 18:00 from April to September and until 17:00 the rest of the year. Through major redevelopment and renovation efforts Akihabara had expanded. Huge buildings like the Yodobashi Camera store had been added to the area. Yodobashi Camera is a large discount electronics shop that is based out of Shinjuku. There are many themed cafes that people can enjoy like the maid cafes and anime themed cafes. The Akihabara Crossfield is a large business complex where the UDX Building is located.
