Minato Mirai 21 used to be a shipyard until the 1980s when the area went under redevelopment construction and became the city center of Yokohama. It is a seaside urban area whose name translates to “harbor of the future.” The Landmark Tower that was built in the area was the tallest building in Japan from 1993 to 2014 at 296 meters. Situated alongside the water there are shopping centers, an amusement park, museums, hot spring baths, hotels, a convention center, and park space available. The central district of Minato Mirai 21 forms the distinctive skyline of Yokohama. Cosmo World is where you can see the famed Ferris wheel that illuminates at night as well as the whole amusement park. For shopping you can go to Queen’s Square, Landmark Plaza, World Porters, and Red Brick Warehouses. Manyo Club is the relaxation center where you can hot spring baths with water coming in from the Izu Peninsula.
