Nagasaki Peace Park

Nagasaki Peace Park is located in Nagasaki, Japan, commemorates the tragic event that took place during the end of World War 2. Established in 1955, and located near the hypocenter of the atomic explosion, a landmark statue is dedicated towards peace along with many other artworks from different countries of the world. The 10- meter-tall statue of a man was created by sculptor Seibo Kitamura with many meanings infused with his artwork, which is mixed with western and eastern art and religion. The right hand of the statue points towards the clouds where the threat of the nuclear bomb came from, while the extended left hand meaning eternal peace. The face of the man symbolizes divine grace with closed eyes offering prayers for the souls of the victims from this tragic event. The legs explain both a meditative motion combined with the initiative to stand up if trouble arises. Another landmark of this park would be the Fountain of Peace. Constructed in 1969 and symbolizes as an offering towards the victims in search of water or died from thirst during that day in 1945. Other stone tablets, sculptures, bells and paper crane are all dedicated towards peace and to the victims of the nuclear weapon.
