Yokohama Chinatown

Yokohama Chinatown is located in the central part of Yokohama. When the port became open to foreign trade many Chinese traders made their residency there. It quickly developed to the point that many Chinese shops and restaurants can be found there today. Actually you will most likely find more businesses than you do residents living in Chinatown. At the entrance to the area you can see four colorful gates. In the center of the place is the Kanteibyo, an over colored temple, that was constructed in 1873 by the Chinese residents. The temple is dedicated to the Chinese god of good business and prosperity. The buildings and structures are not the main attraction of Chinatown, but the cuisine is what people go there for. There is a wide variety of Chinese food, but many of them have a Japanese twist to them.
