10-Day Japan Food & Sake Tour

37 Reviews
10 days 9 nights

Discover the culinary delights of contemporary Tokyo and time-honored Kyoto, plus a day wine-tasting at Nakaizu Winery Hills.

Join a 10-day tour of Japan that explores the foodie side of Tokyo and Kyoto. These two cities are two of the most well-visited in all of Japan, yet most tours visit only the “touristy” locations – you end up feeling as though you’ve only scratched the surface of what these destinations have to offer. Our Food Tour features immersive, local cuisine experiences that let you experience these destinations like a local. In addition to Tokyo and Kyoto, we also have short day trips into Yokohama, Hakone, and Nakaizu Winery Hills.

Tokyo has the some of the best food options in the country; not only places to go eat and shop, but cooking opportunities as well. On the first day, we wake up early to see the bustling atmosphere of Tokyo’s biggest wholesale fish market at the Toyosu Market Fish Auction. Taste fresh-caught sushi at the world-famous Tsukiji Fish Market, and shop for ingredients to use during your cooking class with a professional Japanese chef! Take a food tour through the neon-lighted restaurants and tiny hole-in-the-wall bars of Shinjuku’s Kabukicho and Golden Gai red light districts, hop between izakayas in Ikebukuro, browse the realistic- looking plastic food samples and other kitchenware of Kappabashi Kitchen Town, and look through the discount shops of Ameyoko. Round out your tour of Tokyo with visits to some of the local must-sees: the Edo Tokyo Museum, Asakusa Sensoji Temple, Harajuku’s Takeshita District and Omotesando. On the way to Kyoto, we stop at Yokohama for a visit to the Ramen Museum, then its off to Hakone for a look around the Open-Air Museum and a cruise of Lake Ashi. At last, we come to Nakaizu Winery Hills, located in the breathtaking Izu region, where we enjoy a local wine-tasting tour. Then we arrive in the ancient capital city of Kyoto: city of hundreds of temples and shrines, but which also preserves Japan’s traditional cuisines. While in Kyoto, you will enjoy a vegetarian lunch in beautiful Daisen-in Temple Garden, taste fresh-brewed sake at Fushimi, browse the fresh seafood in Nishiki Market, try on a stylish Kimono, take part in a time- honored tea ceremony in an old-fashioned Machiya townhouse, and savor a dinner of traditional Kyoto Kaiseki cuisine as you enjoy the night’s Geisha entertainment. We also take you to some of Kyoto’s most stunning landmarks: Nijo Castle, Kiyomizu Temple, Daitokuji Temple, Fushimi Inari Shrine, the Golden Pavilion, and the Imperial Palace.

Savor our delicious 10-day Food Tour of Japan, where you will find the most delectable foodie and cuisine experiences in Tokyo and Kyoto, paired with some of their most unforgettable locations. Browse the detailed itinerary below for more information.
