12-Day Central Japan with Hiroshima

40 Reviews
12 days 11 nights

Visit highlights of central Japan, plus Hiroshima and its surrounding attractions on this slower- paced, fully customizable custom private group tour.

Relax on this tailor-made tour, utilizing private knowledgeable guides, private coach transportation, deluxe accommodations, and insider knowledge from Japan specialists. This itinerary gives you the best of central Japan, such as Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka—plus a taste of lesser traveled southern towns.

Start in Tokyo where you will witness modern and traditional sights and attractions, such as Tokyo Skytree and Asakusa temple. Walk busy neon-lit streets and have a go at making your own sushi with a a professional. Admire the iconic Mt Fuji at the base of the mountain, then relax in an onsen hot spring bath in the evening. Explore the historic city of Kyoto, where you can walk though the vibrant vermilion torii gates of Fushimi Inari Shrine. Try on kimono, partake in a green tea ceremony, wander Fushimi Sake District, and enjoy dinner with a Geisha. Feed bowing deer in Nara and ride on the high speed bullet train to Hiroshima.

Visit the city of Hiroshima, which has emerged as a symbol of peace and hope. The city's Peace Memorial Park stands as a poignant tribute to the victims, housing the Atomic Bomb Dome, a hauntingly preserved building that stands as a testament to the devastation of that day. Despite its tragic past, Hiroshima is a vibrant and forward-thinking city that has rebuilt itself into a thriving metropolis. Admire the Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island, a torii gate that appears to “float” on the water.

The Shimanami Kaido is a breathtaking scenic route connecting Japan's main island of Honshu to Shikoku, spanning over islands and bridges across the Seto Inland Sea. Traveling this route offers breathtaking views of the sea, islands, and charming coastal landscapes. In Takamatsu, the Shikoku Mura Village showcases traditional architecture and cultural heritage from the Shikoku region. Ritsurin Park, a mindfully landscaped Japanese garden, is another gem that offers peace amidst ponds, hills, and beautifully arranged greenery. Moving on to Kurashiki, the Bikan Historical Quarter is a preserved area featuring Edo-period merchant houses, narrow streets, and picture perfect canals. It's a delightful place to wander and soak in the atmosphere of old Japan. Himeji is known for its majestic Himeji Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Japan's most iconic and well-preserved feudal castles. Its white exterior and impressive architecture make it a must-visit historical landmark.
