14-Day Central Japan with Japanese Alps

40 Reviews
14 days 13 nights

Unwind on a 14 day private group tour of central Japan, including nature spots in Nikko and Karuizawa and the adorable Japanese Macaques.

This custom leisure tour starts and ends in Tokyo, and visits famous attractions including Tsukiji Outer Market, Imperial Palace East Garden, Shibuya Crossing, and Asakusa Temple, Tokyo Skytree, and Shinjuku. Along this route, explore Nikko, Karuizawa, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Yokohama and more!

Discover Nikko, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Japan that boasts cultural, spiritual, and natural marvels. The tranquil ambiance of Rinnoji Temple welcomes visitors with its Buddhist heritage, housing artifacts and serene sanctuaries. Nearby, Toshogu Shrine is adorned with intricate carvings and vibrant colors, honoring Tokugawa Ieyasu. Kegon Waterfall captivates onlookers with its thunderous falls, while the serene expanse of Lake Chuzenji— against the backdrop of Mount Nantai—offers tranquility and scenic beauty. Nikko's ensemble of temples, shrines, waterfalls, and lakes provides a harmonious blend of history, spirituality, and breathtaking landscapes.

We will travel to Karuizawa to see the magnificent architecture of Uchimura Kanzo Memorial Stone Church, followed by the enchanting beauty of Shiraito Waterfall. We wander through the Karuizawa Museum of Art, known for its collection of both Japanese and international artworks. The museum showcases diverse artistic expressions, ranging from traditional to contemporary pieces.

We arrive in Nagano at Yudanaka Onsen, and begin the next day with a visit to the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park - home to a group of adorable Japanese macaques, who love bathing in the local outdoor hot spring. Though they are called Snow Monkeys, they can be seen throughout the park in every season. Our sightseeing in Kanazawa starts with a visit to the bright green and blooming Kenrokuen Garden, followed by browsing the old mansions of the Nagamachi Samurai District, including the affluent Nomura Residence. We end the day with a Gold Leaf Experience that allows you to learn about and try your hand at decorating with gold leaf, Kanazawa’s most famous local product.
