Have you ever wanted to explore the Anime side of
Tokyo?
This 7-day tour includes not only four days uncovering
the
otaku destinations of Tokyo, but another day in
gorgeous
Hakone. Then spend a day of delight discovering anime
locations in Nagoya, possibly strolling the whimsical
new
Ghibli Park. Our Anime tour includes seasonal
itineraries
during the spring cherry blossoms, summer, and autumn
seasons, so you can join an anime tour at a time that is
right for you and your travel group.
During our time in Tokyo, we head right to the heart of
anime culture in Tokyo - Akihabara - where you will have
ample time to browse the anime stores, manga
booksellers, cosplay shops, and themed cafes. Take
some
time to sit down at an anime cafe or maid cafe for a
latte,
and immerse in Akihabara's otaku culture. We also
include
visits to Ikebukuro, beginning with a delightful Ramen
Tour
where you can taste deliciously eccentric twists on the
famous dish. Ikebukuro contains Sunshine City – a
shopping center home to various cute fashion boutiques
and anime shops including the Pokémon Center Mega
Tokyo. Ikebukuro also has the flagship store for
Animate,
which is Japan's anime merchandise retail giant. It sits
on
one corner of the famed Otome Road, where you can
find
anime and manga that appeal especially to ladies. While
in
Tokyo, you will also be able to browse fashion-forward
boutiques in Harajuku, see the Outer Market at Tsukiji,
walk around Tokyo's oldest temple complex at Asakusa
Sensoji, take a foodie tour through the izakaya
restaurants
in Kabukicho and Golden Gai in Shinjuku, taste
delicious
sushi from an indoor "sushi train" at the Conveyor Belt
Sushi restaurant, walk the "Scramble Crossing" in
Shibuya,
and see the statue of the faithful Akita dog, Hachiko.
Then we travel to gorgeous Hakone, where its idyllic
countryside can be enjoyed from the deck of a pirate
ship
while on a cruise of Lake Ashi. You will be able to see
more
while on the Hakone Ropeway (perhaps even catching
a
glimpse of Mount Fuji), and walk the smoky volcanic
landscape at Owakudani. Hakone is also known to
anime
fans as the setting for Neon Genesis Evangelion, so we
make sure to visit the local Evangelion shop, where you
can find official merchandise.
After Hakone, we finally make our way to Nagoya, home
to
various anime-related locations including the new Ghibli
Park, a whimsical walk-around through the immersive
worlds of the Studio Ghibli films. You will be able to
enjoy a
day of leisure to explore the city as you wish. If you
would
like to try and get tickets to Ghibli Park, AJT will help you
in
the attempt, but tickets cannot be guaranteed at this
time
due to limited entrance times and park capacity. As an
alternative, you can join our combination foodie / anime
store walking tour. This special tour takes you around
Sakae (Nagoya’s downtown area) and the Osu
Shopping
District, where you can find colorful boutiques selling not
only anime and manga goods, but a vast collection of
assorted pop culture items.
Our anime tours bring you some of the top anime
destinations in Japan, contained in a weeklong
adventure
that encourages you to indulge your inner otaku. Our
tour
transportation is mainly facilitated by the use of our
comfortable private coaches (with two days on Japan's
efficient public transit system), and you will be
accompanied by one of our professional and friendly
bilingual guides. Please browse our detailed itineraries
for
more information.
