of these time-honored destinations, and our itineraries
bring our guests to both traditional must-sees and
hidden local gems of both Taiwan and Japan.
Explore the gorgeous island of Taiwan and get
immersed in its local blend of cultural traditions - mostly
Chinese with a dash of local Taiwanese flair. Depart
from
Taipei into the glorious Taiwan countryside, starting off
with one of its most splendid sights: Taroko National
Park. The park is home to Taroko Gorge - a natural
wonder of Taiwan lined in white marble and called "the
Grand Canyon of Taiwan". Then we travel through
Hualien to Sun Moon Lake. The stunning mountains and
forests surrounding Taiwan's most refreshing nature
getaway make for excellent scenery, and our guests
take in the best views from a sightseeing boat touring
the lake. Then we partake in a wonderful tea tour of
Maolanshan Tea Plantation, enjoying the refreshing
local
tea brand while strolling beside the beautiful fields. From
there, we move toward the celebrated forests of Alishan,
enjoying an easy hike through the woodland scenery
before taking the Alishan Scenic Railway for
unforgettable views of the mountains from the train.
Finally, we reach the city of Taichung - one of the
centers for local Taiwan culture, where we tour the top
sights of the city, including Wufeng Lin Family Mansion
and Garden, Rainbow Village, and Taichung National
Theater, Gao-mei Wetlands, and Fengjia Night Market.
We wrap up the Taiwan portion with a day tour of Taipei,
with our guests enjoying access to the Chiang Kai-Shek
National Monument, National Palace Museum, and the
shopping mall inside Taipei 101 - lined with high-class
stores and restaurants.
Continue from there to Japan, and our most popular
route through the Land of the Rising Sun, landing in the
city of Osaka. Discover the UNESCO Heritage temples
of Nara and Kyoto, including Nara's Todaiji Temple -
home to a friendly herd of over a hundred cute Sika
deer. In Kyoto, view the shining phoenix of the Golden
Pavilion and Kiyomizu Temple's dramatic veranda, plus
get immersed in traditional Japanese refinement in a
Green Tea Ceremony conducted by a Maiko. Travel
through Koka to the Hakone region for a ride on the
Hakone Ropeway to the Owakudani hot springs, and if
the weather is favorable, splendid views of shapely
Mount Fuji. Finally, we make our way to the capital city
of Tokyo, with a day tour that includes Asakusa Sensoji
Temple's "Gate of Thunder", gorgeous Ueno Park, the
Imperial Palace, and Tokyo Tower.
