The Pilgrimage Route of Japan Tour grants you access
to
some of Japan’s culturally attractive areas and scenic
sites. Gain insight on Shintoism and Buddhism in Japan,
which are still practiced today. Take this opportunity to
experience Japan’s historical lifestyle and culture
firsthand. All Japan Tours grants you exclusive access
to
many religious sites of Japan, and provides the means
necessary to fully immerse yourself in nature. Take a
walk
with us along the Shikoku Pilgrimage Route, as we
explore the true history and spirtuality of Japan.
Starting and ending in Osaka, this tour's first stop is
Himeji
Castle, one of twelve original standing castles. Visit a
city
known for its tragic history, where houses and buildings
were once obliterated, and now thrives as a modern and
completely rebuilt city, Hiroshima. Visit the Memorial
Peace Park and Museum, seeing artifcats that were
found
after the blast. Then, head to Miyajima Island, home to
the
famous Floating Torii Gate. Enjoy a scenic drive through
the Shimanami Kaido, a 60-kilometer-long toll road that
connects the main island of Honshu to the Shikoku
island,
which is still largely untouched by mass tourism.
Shikoku
is seeped with natural beauty, colorful legend and
history,
and jeweled with 88 pilgrimage temples.
From Ryozenji to Gokurakuji, experience part of the
pilgrimage route on foot, as you make your way along
the
16th century route. Take a ferry to Wakayama and visit
Koyasan, where you will have the opportunity to
experience a monk lifestyle by staying overnight at a
temple and eating a Shojin Ryori (vegetarian) dinner. In
the morning, you will have the chance to join monks in
their meditation practice for further enlightenment on
their
spiritual customs. In Kumano, spend time visiting
temples,
shrines, and other significant structures along the
Kumano
Kodo Pilgrimage Trail, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From there, you can see the tallest waterfall in Japan,
Nachi Fall. After visiting several temples and shrines,
including the Ise Grand Shrine, one of Japan’s most
sacred and holiest Shinto shrines, spend time at the
Mikimoto Pearl Island to learn the art and skills of pearl
production.
Our Pilgrimage Route brings travelers cultural
awareness
of the historical past and belief systems deeply rooted in
Japan. Enjoy authentic cuisine, cherry blossoms in the
spring, autumn leaves in the fall, and comfortable
accommodations hand-selected by All Japan Tours.
With
an English-speaking guide and transportation on private
coach bus included, you can relax and enjoy Japan as it
was meant to be enjoyed.
