Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is one of the most
popular photo spots in Kyoto along with Kinkakuji and
Fushimi Inari Shrine. It is located north from the entrance
to the Tenryuji Temple.
Arashiyama Bamboo Grove is
located north from the
entrance of the Tenryuji Temple in Sagano, Kyoto. It
is
densely packed with bamboo stalks that filter in the
sunlight and sway with the incoming winds. There is
only one road that goes through the middle of the
grove.
Visitors of the bamboo forest enjoy strolling through
the
air and wish to capture a photo of the area. You can
also
ride a bike through the green stalk forest and listen to
the sounds of the plant colliding with another. Along
the
path the bamboo is regularly harvested when the
plant
has reached its full height. It is then turned into crafts
that can be found in the shops surrounding the area.
Depending on the time of day and weather the
atmosphere of the grove can change. People say that
it
is the most attractive when there is rain. In
December,
the pathway is decorated with traditional Japanese
lanterns and is illuminated at night. It is an event
known
as Arashiyama Hanatoro and is one reason to check
out
the bamboo grove in the winter. There is a rickshaw
service that people can try for about 5000 to 6000
yen
to go through the forest.
