Kinosaki is a resort town in Hyogo Prefecture,
and is a popular vacation spot for its refreshing hot
spring
baths.
Kinosaki is a coastal town in
Hyogo Prefecture on the shores of the Sea of Japan.
When hot springs were discovered around the 8th
century,
Kinosaki grew into a quaintly old-fashioned hot spring,
or
onsen resort town. Seven of the hot springs stand out
from
the rest as the most prized, and most hotels and ryokan
offer passes to visit all seven in one day. According to
local legends, each one of the springs provides a
different
mystical boon to those who soak in its waters, including
longevity, luck in love, happy marriage, and protection
from fire. It is common to see the guests of the local
ryokan walking around in traditional Japanese yukata
robes, going to and from the hot spring baths.
Many come to Kinosaki to relax near the beautiful
coastline. Some choose to take the ropeway to the top
of
Mount Daishi, and pay a visit to the appropriately named
Onsenji Temple. And all throughout the town are small
public foot baths for tired feet to enjoy a relaxing soak.
