Motonosumi Inari Shrine is
located in the city of
Nagato
in the Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is has been listed by
CNN as one of the top 31 beautiful places in Japan.
There are 123 red torii gates going down a mountain
side towards the Sea of Japan with beautiful greenery
surrounding them. The torii gates stretch out over 100
meters (328 feet) and are a great contrast to the
area.
Motonosumi Inari Shrine houses the sacred spirits
that
left the Taikodani Inari Shrine in Shimane Prefecture.
The Shinto shrine shows the perfect balance and
appreciation of nature.
The Motonosumi Inari Shrine was established in
1955. It
is said that a God disguised as white fox visited a
fisherman in a dream and told him to enshrine them
in
the area. Those who walk through the tunnel of torii
gates wish for success in business, good catch in
fishing, and safe voyage. However, the deity residing
there is said to grant a wider variety of wishes like a
good match in relationships or having a baby. The
offertory box is in an unusual place compared to most
shrines. Instead of being on the ground it is located at
the top of shrine gate. It is said that if you were to
throw
your money and make it into the box then your wish
will
come true.
