The fall season is one of Japan's most enchanting

best. This tour includes not only Tokyo, Kyoto, Hakone,

Arrive in Tokyo, beginning your journey with a visit to
Asakusa Sensoji Temple, where you'll see Tokyo's
oldest
temple. Your time in Tokyo also includes visits to the

and a stroll through the Imperial Palace.
Continue from there to Hakone, where you'll ride the
Hakone Ropeway. Mount Fuji's impressive snow-capped
cone may be easily viewed on a nice day, as your
gondola descends to Owakudani. The sulfurous steam
flowing out from the boiling pools and steamy fissures
between the rocks lends this smoking valley a
mysterious air. Weather permitting, you will visit the 5th
station of Mount Fuji, where you will be able to
appreciate the iconic mountain's splendor up close.
Proceed from there to Obara Shikizakura Festival to see
both the fiery red and orange autumn leaves and the
soft
pink cherry blossoms, before continuing to Takayama.
This city is nestled in the Japanese Alps and contains
Takayama Jinya - a palatial administrative building used
by governors from the Tokugawa shogunate - complete
with conference rooms, guest rooms, and an
interrogation chamber. From there you'll head further
into
the Alps to stop at Shirakawa-go - a UNESCO Heritage
site famed for its farmhouses with large thatched roofs
called "Gassho-zukuri". Next, you'll travel to Kanazawa
to
stroll through Kenrokuen Garden - its pathways and
sweeping lawns strewn with fall leaves.
Your sightseeing tour through Kyoto includes visiting a
number of local temples which are celebrated for such
splendid features as the Golden Pavilion's dazzling
phoenix, Kiyomizu Temple's dramatic veranda, and the
exacting detail of Tenryuji's Zen garden. Other charms of
the old city include the Sagano Bamboo Grove whose
towering green stalks, rustling in the breeze, are one of

At the ancient capital of Nara, you will visit
Todaiji Temple and a deer park where 1,000 Sika deer

Visit the city of Himeji and breathtaking Himeji "White
Heron" Castle before going to explore the canals of
Kurashiki. These canals were vital during the Edo period
for the transport of rice and other foodstuffs, which were
held in the city storehouses before being shipped to
Osaka and Tokyo. A stop in Hiroshima brings you to the
emotionally moving Hiroshima Peace Memorial. Then,
at
Miyajima Island, you'll see the large red torii gate of
Itsukushima Shrine, then take a scenic drive along the
Shimanami Kaido, a road that connects several small
islands, sitting prettily in Seto Bay and covered in bright
foliage, between the main island of Honshu and the
southwest island of Shikoku. While in Shikoku, take a
cruise down the Yoshino River at Oboke Gorge,
enjoying
the lush green foliage waving over the stones, then
climb
the stone steps up to Kotohira-gu Shrine. Then take a
stroll through Ritsurun Park to gaze at the groves of
chestnut trees at the foot of Mount Shion. At night, a
feast of tender, delectable wagyu beef awaits your
palate
in Kobe. After, head back to Osaka to make your own
original flavor of instant noodles at the Cup Noodles
Museum, stop at Kashihara to find the fabled point
where
Jimmu, Japan's legendary first emperor, ascended his
throne at Kashihara on your way to Mount Koyasan.

Today, you will be taken to the Asakusa Kannon Temple,
an active place of worship where you can see the
largest
paper lantern in Japan. You will also be able to explore
the Nakamise Market, which is located right after the
temple's outer gates. It is a traditional-style shopping
street with centuries of history. Next, you will have the
chance to enjoy a sushi making experience with a
professional sushi chef. Whatever you prepare, you will
get to eat! Afterwards, we will proceed to the Tsukiji
Outer
Market, where various restaurants and shops line the
streets. Then, pay a visit to the Imperial Palace, the
former site of Edo Castle and current residence of
Japan's Imperial Family. In the afternoon, we will visit
the
the world's tallest self supporting steel tower. At 333
meters high, Tokyo Tower is 13 meters taller than its
model, the Eiffel Tower. You will be able to sightsee 150
meters up at the main observatory deck and get a bird's
eye view of the city.

We will depart from Tokyo to Mt. Fuji on our private coach. Along the way, enjoy the changing scenery, from thick vegetation to lowlands to rolling clouds. Stop at Mt. Fuji 5th station (depending on weather) to admire the world famous peak. Next, we will travel to Hakone, which is among Japan's most popular hot- spring resorts, and view the forested slopes of Hakone National Park. We will take a 20 minute ropeway ride from Togendai to Owakundani. Most of the area around Owakundani is considered an active volcanic zone since its creation from the eruption of Mount Hakone some 3,000 years ago. Now, you can experience hot springs and hot rivers there, where sulfurous fumes still linger. Owakundani also has splendid views of Mount Fuji in good weather. Next, take a Shinkansen bullet train ride for experience, which can reach speeds of up to 300 km/hr. We will stay at the Onsen Hotel at Hamanako Kanzaiji Onsen, where you can soak in the therapeutic waters of a spa bath and feast on a traditional Japanese Kaiseki banquet dinner.
Today we will head to Obara and visit the Obara Shikizakura Festival. Obara is the only place in Japan where you can see both the fiery red and orange autumn leaves and the soft pink cherry blossom at the same time. Shikizakura are a special kind of cherry tree that bloom twice a year: once in spring, and again just as the autumn leaves are at their best. At Obara Shikizakura Festival, we are able to enjoy this rare, incredibly beautiful, and fantastic scene. Then, we will continue on to Takayama. This city is located amongst the Japanese Alps and is known as "Little Kyoto" for its preserved historical structures and environment. Due to its remote position in the mountains, it was cut off from the rest of Japan for most of its history and thus has maintained a very unique and traditional atmosphere. We'll explore the old town of Takayama. Along the way you'll notice the huge cedar balls hanging from the eaves of several shops - these indicate that the shops are sake. Next, visit Takayama Jinya, the only traditional local government office in existence and a fine example of a miniature palace containing offices, an interrogation room with torture devices and a 440- year old rice granary.
This morning we'll enjoy the lively city market before heading to the World Heritage-listed rural area of Shirakawa-go. Shirakawa-go is home of the UNESCO designated gassho-zukuri farmhouses. Gassho-zukuri translates to "prayer hands", in which the roofs resemble hands in prayer. Visitors can see great views of Ogimachi Village from the Shiroyama Viewpoint. We will also tour the Gassho-zukuri Minkaen, an open air museum of farmhouses and other structures. From Shirakawa-go, we will depart to Kanazawa to visit Kenrokuen Garden, one of three most beautiful strolling gardens of Japan. The name Kenrokuen literally means a garden combining the 6 attributes of a perfect landscape: spaciousness, seclusion, artifice, antiquity, water features, and panoramas. Here, you'll find the oldest fountain in Japan and Kotoji-toro, the two- legged stone lantern that is iconic of Kenrokuen and Kanazawa. We will then continue to Kyoto, a historical city that was spared from air raids and saved from the atomic bomb during World War II for its cultural and historical value.
Today we will start our tour of Kyoto, once the capital of Japan and still considered its cultural center. First is a visit to the famous Kiyomizu Temple, best known for its wooden stage that juts out from its main hall, 13 meters above the hillside below. The stage affords visitors a nice view of the numerous cherry and maple trees below that erupt in a sea of color in spring and fall, as well as of the city of Kyoto in the distance. Then visit the Nijo Castle, built in the early 17th century. Ninomaru- goten, renovated in 1626, is a building renowned as a priceless example of the architectural style of that period. Visit the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion) covered with 18 carat gold leaf. This three story structure was originally built by the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1397. Next is a visit to Arashiyama to see Tenryuji Temple where you can have a glimpse of traditional Zen landscape garden design. Then proceed through a dense bamboo grove, past several small shrines, tea shops and private houses before arriving at the Togetsukyo Bridge over Hozu River. Lastly, we will tour Gion, the old Geisha Quarter, and Pontocho, whose cobblestone alleys vibrate with night life.
The day begins with a green tea ceremony and a meet- and-greet with a maiko – an apprentice geisha. You will have photo-taking opportunities and a chance to interact with the maiko. After that, make your way to the Fushimi Inari Shrine. The shrine is famous for its thousands of stunning vermilion torii gates that are lined along a 4 km (2.5 mile) long tunnel, which was even featured in the film "Memoirs of a Geisha". This complex wraps around a bamboo wilderness that consists of mountains, streams, and ponds, making it the perfect backdrop for a scenic hike. We will then travel to Nara, where we will go to Todaiji Temple, the largest wooden building in Japan. The temple also houses one of the largest bronze statues of Buddha at 15 meters (49 feet) tall. Nearby, explore the surrounding Deer Park, filled with over 1,000 Sika Deer. Our final stop of the day will be in Osaka. We will spend some time in Dotonbori, a popular shopping, entertainment, and food district. It is known for the hundreds of neon and mechanized signs that line its streets. Our group will also stop by Shinasaibashi, one of Osaka's oldest shopping destinations.
Today we take a 2-hour ride by private coach to Himeji to visit the Himeji Castle. It is known as "White Egret Castle" and "White Heron Castle" because of its brilliant white exterior, resembling a bird taking flight. Himeji Castle is the largest and most visited castle in Japan, and is one of the few remaining original castles in Japan. This splendid example of traditional architecture was declared one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Japan. Next is a visit to Kurashiki. In merchant days, this scenic town thrived as a port for rice shipments. Several old rice granaries and examples of historic architecture still remain, in addition to the stone lined canal. In the afternoon, we will continue our journey to Hiroshima.
Today we will visit the Peace Memorial Park and Atomic Bomb Museum. After lunch, we will take a short ferry ride to the island of Miyajima. At high tide, the famed vermilion torii gate of the Itsukushima Shrine looks like it's floating in the middle of the sea. The shrine complex is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Miyajima has been selected as one of Japan's three most scenic places (nihon sankei). In the afternoon, we will drive through the Shimanami Kaido to Shikoku Island. The Shimanami Kaido is a 60 kilometer long toll road that connects Japan's main island of Honshu to the island of Shikoku, passing over six small islands in the Seto Inland Sea. It is also known as the Nishiseto Expressway.
After breakfast, we continue our journey to Oboke Gorge, one of three hidden mountain regions of Japan. Oboke is the valley located upstream of the Yoshino-gawa River. "Boke" means "dangerous to walk along," and Oboke (big "boke") was named for its jagged V-shaped rocks and narrow path which, no matter how carefully or slowly you walk, makes walking dangerous. Enjoy a relaxing boat ride and take in the panoramic view of the valley. Then, climb the 1,368 stone steps to the Kotohira-gu Shrine, a Shinto shrine. In Takamatsu we will visit Ritsurin Park, a masterpiece of Japanese landscape 100 years in the making. This sprawling park features beautiful ponds and pavilions, with Mt. Shiun as the perfect backdrop. From there, our private coach takes us across Awaji Island through a series of spectacular bridges. In the evening we continue to Kobe, where we will savor the world famous Wagyu beef.
Begin today with a visit to the Osaka Cup Noodles Museum, which celebrates the invention of instant ramen noodles by Momofuku Ando. Instant Ramen was invented in Osaka, and began with a simple Chicken flavor. The museum includes exhibits on the history of instant noodles and Ando’s life, as well as a workshop where you can create own original cup noodle. Then your tour will make its way to Kashihara Shrine, regarded as the resting place of Jimmu – Japan’s first emperor. It is also believed that Jimmu ascended the throne where the shrine stands. Two of the buildings, the main hall and the prayer hall, were donated from the Kyoto Imperial Palace by Emperor Meiji when the shrine was first constructed. Finally, travel to Koyasan, the heart of the Shingon Buddhist sect, where you can enjoy an overnight stay in a local temple, where you'll dine on shojin ryori dinner, or monks' food.
Awaken that morning to an early meditation session with the monks. This kind of meditation is called ajikan, which involves lessons in proper posture and breathing exercises during the meditation time. Next you will take a tour of Okunoin, the largest cemetery in Japan. This cemetery holds the mausoleum of Shingon Buddhism's founder, Kobo Daishi, and is surrounded by thousands of burning lanterns and other interesting monuments. Afterwards, tour the Kongobuji Temple constructed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi to commemorate his mother after death. The rock garden behind Kongobuji Temple is the largest Zen garden, beautifully composed to represent dragons emerging from clouds in the sky. Then we will visit the Danjo Garan, the main temple complex of Koyasan and a sacred location for the Buddhist monks to train and chant. Transfer from there back to Osaka to relax and enjoy your last night in Japan.

Main residence of the Imperial Family.
The Imperial Palace is located in the center of Tokyo, only a short walk away from Tokyo station. The palace is home to the current Imperial Family. The inner grounds of the palace is not open to the public, except on January 2nd and December 23rd where guests are able to enter and see the current members of the Imperial Family from a balcony. Visitors can view the Nijubashi, two bridges that form an entrance to the inner palace grounds. The stone bridge in front is called Meganebashi (Eyeglass Bridge) for its looks. The bridge in the back was formerly a wooden bridge with two levels, from which the name Nijubashi (Double Bridge) is derived.

Tokyo Tower is the world’s tallest self-supported steel tower and is the second tallest structure in Japan. There are two observatories in the tower sitting at 150 meters and 250 meters tall. The main 150 meter observatory offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding area and has small souvenir shops for visitors. The special 250 meter observatory offers a higher view of the surrounding area over some of the tall buildings and on a good day, visitors might be able to see Mount Fuji off in the distance.
The highest mountain in Japan, Mt. Fuji is 3,776 meters above sea level, and is located more or less in the center of Japan, stretching over Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. Its elegant conical form has frequently been depicted in many paintings and literary works since ancient times. Many artists have been captivated by the diverse expressions shown by this mountain depending on the season, or depending on the time of the day, whether in the morning or early evening. It is widely believed that Mt. Fuji is unparalleled worldwide as a mountain that has so frequently been narrated, sung in verse, and drawn.

Mt. Fuji is a widely-known symbol of Japan. At 3,773 meters, Mount Fuji is Japan’s tallest mountain. “Station (gome)” is the unit representing one tenth of the length from the trail entrance to the top.The fifth station Mt. Fuji is the fifth point from the base at the height of 2,305 meter. Being the end of the Fuji Subaru Line toll road and the highest point that general cars can reach. From the observatory you can see below Komitake Shrine, an ancient place for prayer that has been visited by worshippers and disciplinant, and Yamanaka-ko, the largest lake among the five Fuji lakes.
Hakone is located in Kanagawa Prefecture and is only about two hours away from Tokyo. Hakone is park of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and is a popular destination for tourist. Hakone is famous in Japan for its hot springs and beautiful natural views. Visitors can go to the many hot spring resorts to relax and unwind or visit the many museums and shrines available. Guests that would appreciate nature more could go to the parks and trails to experience the natural beauty.

One of the most popular ways to get around Hakone is by taking the Hakone Ropeway. The ropeway travels between Sounzan and Togendai. The Hakone Ropeway gives visitors a beautiful view of Hakone and on a clear day, it is possible to get a nice view of Mount Fuji as well.

Owakudani is located in Hakone and is an area around a crater where gaseous fumes, hot springs, and hot rivers exist. Just like most of Hakone, on a clear day, it is possible to see Mount Fuji as well. There are hiking trails available for guests, but these trails are difficult for inexperience hikers.
Japan's main islands of Honshu, Kyushu and Hokkaido are served by a network of high speed train lines that connect Tokyo with most of the country's major cities. Japan's high speed trains (bullet trains) are called shinkansen and are operated by Japan Railways (JR). The shinkansen network consists of multiple lines, among which the Tokaido Shinkansen (Tokyo - Nagoya - Kyoto - Osaka) is the oldest and most popular. All shinkansen lines (except the Akita and Yamagata Shinkansen) run on tracks that are exclusively built for and used by shinkansen trains. Most lines are served by multiple train categories, ranging from the fastest category that stops only at major stations to the slowest category that stops at every station along the way.

Obara was a village located in Aichi Prefecture, Obara was well known as the home of traditional Japanese "Washi" mulberry paper. Obara Village was created on July 1, 1906 through the merger of the hamlets of Kiyohara, Honjo, Fukuhara and Toyohara. On April 1, 2005, Obara, along with the town of Fujioka (also from Nishikamo District), the towns of Asuke, Asahi and Inabu, and the village of Shimoyama (all from Higashikamo District), was merged into the expanded city of Toyota, and has ceased to exist as an independent municipality. Obara is the only place in Japan where 10,000 rare shikizakura (四季桜, "four- seasons-cherry blossom") cherry trees grow, which bloom twice a year in spring and autumn. These trees are said to have originated in the early 1800s when the samurai physician Fujimoto Genseki was presented with one of those trees from a temple in Nagoya.

Kashihara is a city with roots reaching far back into Japan’s ancient past, with some local sites having ties directly to the Imperial family. It contains the ruins of Fujiwara-kyo, which was an imperial capital in the late 7th century, before it was moved to nearby Nara. But undoubtedly the most important site in the area is Kashihara Shrine. According to legend, it was here that Emperor Jimmu ascended the throne, founding the Yamato Dynasty and the nation of Japan. Kashihara Shrine sits at the foot of Mount Unebi, near the city of Kashihara, in Nara prefecture. Although the shrine is relatively new, having been built only in 1980, its roots stretch back 2500 years, all the way to the dawn of Japan’s founding. According to tradition, it was here that Emperor Jimmu, direct descendant of the Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu, ascended to the throne of Japan, founding the Yamato Imperial Dynasty. Kashihara Shrine’s main hall, or honden, is enormously significant, as one of three buildings donated to the shrine by Emperor Meiji at the time of construction. These buildings were the imperial family’s own property, having stood on the grounds of the former Imperial Palace at Kyoto. The grounds surrounding the shrine buildings are spacious, full of rugged woodland beauty, and wound through with walking trails.

Sekishoin is located at the entrance of Okunoin, the inner sanctuary, and is very convenient for the visit to the temple. The garden is about 5,000 square meters and is the circuit style.
