Japan's spring season is internationally prized for its exhibitions of delicate cherry blossoms. This itinerary, like others in our "Best of Japan" series, takes you to stroll this pink springtime wonderland, as you visit the most popular sights in Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and the Japanese Alps, including visits to Matsumoto, Takayama, Shirakawa- go and Kanazawa. The tour will finish with a visit to Koyasan - the sacred mountain of Shingon Buddhism, and an overnight stay at one of the temples. This tour also offers travelers a sample of Japanese cultural aspects, architectural styles, nature spots, hot spring baths, contemporary sights, and traditional cuisine.

Our private guides and drivers will help you navigate though Tokyo's finest cherry blossom viewing spots on a route that brings you around the most acclaimed landmarks to be found in the capital, paired with unforgettable cultural experiences. Learn how to make your own sushi with a professional chef and enjoy whatever you made. Take in views of the impressive scenery at Hakone and Mt. Fuji. Stay at an onsen hotel (Japanese style room), where you can relax in a soothing hot springs bath (onsen) and dine on gourmet kaiseki cuisine. Visit the dramatic Black Crow Castle (Matsumoto Castle) en route to Takayama, located amongst the Japanese Alps. Due to their remote location, these places are beautifully preserved and have developed their own unique culture different from the rest of Japan. Visit the charming village of Shirakawa-go, a rural area recognized for their gassho-zukuri architectural style. In Kanazawa, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the beautiful Kenrokuen Garden and note the six attributes which make a perfect landscape.

Tour through the traditional city of Kyoto for two days. Cherry blossom viewing opportunities abound in the old capital, and this itinerary combines the most picture- perfect scenes from among Kyoto's innumerable shrines and temples. Experience, during this leg of the tour, an authentic green tea ceremony, a meet-and- greet with a maiko (apprentice geisha). Visit Arashiyama, located on the outskirts of Kyoto, where you will explore the Sagano Bamboo Grove, and see a traditional Zen garden at Tenryuji Temple. Continue your tour to Nara, where you will visit the magnificent Todaiji Temple and a park full of 1,000 adorable, free-roaming Sika deer. You will also travel to Osaka, a city with a reputation for a lively night life.

Visit the famous Himeji Castle and the photogenic canal town of Kurashiki. In Hiroshima, spend time at the Peace Memorial Museum and Park, then make your way to Miyajima Island to see the "floating" torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. Afterwards, drive the Shimanami Kaido, a scenic toll road that connects Japan's main island of Honshu to the island of Shikoku while passing over six small islands in the Seto Inland Sea. On Shikoku Island, visit the captivating Ritsurin Garden in Takamatsu, climb 1,368 stone steps to the Kotohira-gu Shrine, and enjoy a quaint boat ride while enjoying the natural beauty of Oboke Gorge. At night, a feast of tender, delectable wagyu beef awaits your palate in Kobe. Please note that if you feel like you don't want to climb the steps to Konpirasan, there are activities to do at the base: Sweets stores and craft shops, ice cream and udon making, and shops to taste delicious sake. Then take a short trip back through Osaka, stopping at the Cup Noodles Museum to craft your own original flavor of cup noodles. After, you will visit Mount Yoshino, Japan’s most acclaimed cherry blossom viewing spot.

Discover the mountain temples of Koyasan - sacred mountain of the Japanese sect of Shingon Buddhism, and resting place of the temple's founder, Kobo Daishi. Stay overnight in the temple complex, enjoying a healthy vegetarian meal of monks' food. Take part in morning meditation with the monks, and enjoy in-depth tours of Kongobuji Temple - built by legendary samurai warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Okunoin - Japan's largest cemetery, and Danjo Garan - the main temple complex on Koyasan. This tour is ideal for travelers looking to find the perfect selection of Japan's top sights and activities during the pleasantly cool spring season.
