Discover Japan in the autumn on a 12-day itinerary full of Japan's natural wonder, fascinating historic landmarks, and that unique blend of ancient traditions with adorable pop culture that makes this destination one-of-a-kind. Tokyo, Mount Fuji, the Japanese Alps, Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Nara, Hiroshima, Kobe, and many more must-see locations await your discovery on this 12-day itinerary..

Sightsee the mesmerizing city of Tokyo with a sightseeing tour of the capital's top sights, including Asakusa Sensoji Temple, the Imperial Palace, and Tokyo Skytree, which presents a stunning view of the Tokyo cityscape. See the beauty of the samurai spirit in the Samurai Museum, and enjoy an evening food tour in Shinjuku. Go from there to Mount Fuji, where we search out a vision of the iconic peak - something every traveler should see at least once, then be amazed by the exhibits of traditional silk-dyeing at the Itchiku Kubota Museum, including Kubota's unfinished "Symphony of Light". After enjoying the Fiji region, we take in a local cultural exchange and cooking class in Ina, as we make the acquaintance of some of the city's elderly residents.

From there we wind up through the Japanese Alps, on a route full of enchanting landscape scenes and charming cultural treasures. Explore the heritage Old Town of Takayama as you view beautifully preserved merchants' shops and houses, then admire one of Japan's UNESCO Heritage Sites - the mountain village of Shirakawa-go, known for its unique "gassho- zukuri" architecture. Head from there to Kanazawa and Kenrokuen Garden - one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan and lovely in any season. Kanazawa is famed for fine gold leaf; we have scheduled a gold leaf workshop to learn about the making and uses of this especially fine product.

As the center of Japanese traditional culture and learning for over a thousand years, Kyoto beckons to every traveler with its hundreds of temples and shrines, carefully cultivated scenic beauty, and of course, enigmatic geisha. The Golden Pavilion, Kiyomizu Temple, Fushimi Inari Shrine, and many more heritage treasures captivate visitors with their distinctive features. Tenryuji Temple, in the Arashiyama district, is similarly pleasing, yet the neighborhood nearby is also celebrated for gorgeous nature. While there, take a stroll through a grove of towering bamboo trees, admire the stunning view from Togetsukyo Bridge, and take a relaxing ride through the streets of old Kyoto in a rickshaw. We won't depart without immersing you in the time-honored culture of ancient Japan. You will be able to try on a fine Japanese kimono, partake in a tea ceremony, and eat Kyoto kaiseki cuisine with a geisha apprentice.

Wander a park full of adorable Sika deer in Nara and delve into the history of Japanese sumo at Katsuragi before finally arriving at Hiroshima. At the stately Peace Park and A-Bomb Museum, you'll understand the post-war history that helped to shape the Japan of today. A short excursion to Miyajima Island follows, where you can admire Itsukushima Shrine and its floating gate. We finish the tour with a day to delight: stroll the romantic old canals at Kurashiki, view the magnificent Himeji "White Heron" Castle, and savor a delicious wagyu beef dinner in Kobe. We can't wait to take you to discover Japan! Browse our detailed itinerary for more information.
