Add a two day extension to Hiroshima on this special 13- day Discover Japan Jidai Festival Tour, that features sights and experiences in Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Yudanaka, the Nakasendo Road, Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka.

This itinerary adds two days exploring Hiroshima and Miyajima to our Discover Japan Jidai Festival Group Tour for a longer Japan tour experience. Discover the wonders of Kyoto’s traditional history and culture at the enchanting Jidai Festival, or “Festival of the Ages”, which introduces each period of Kyoto history from 1896 back to 794 in a grand procession of hundreds of people dressed in period- accurate attire, attending famous historical figures. The tour also includes, along the course of thirteen days, the destinations of Tokyo, Mount Fuji, Yudanaka, the enchanting Nakasendo Road, Nara, Osaka, Hiroshima and Miyajima, in a well-rounded itinerary that boasts both historic and contemporary sights and in-depth experiences.

The tour begins in Tokyo and includes Tsukiji Outer Market, the Imperial Palace, a Sushi-Making Experience, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo Skytree, and Asakusa Sensoji Temple, plus a half- day to explore Tokyo on your own. We go from there to the Fuji Five Lakes area to find exceptional views of Mount Fuji at Arakurayama Sengen Park and Lake Kawaguchi, plus a look at the Kubota Itchiku Art Museum’s dyed silk kimono. We then travel to Matsumoto, from which we visit the adorable snow monkeys in the mountains of Yudanaka, the Hokusai Museum in Obuse, and the Kiso Valley. In this enchanting valley, we walk the Old Nakasendo Road from Magome to Tsumago, which includes old-fashioned Japanese towns and beautiful landscapes. Check our itinerary for the different options we offer when walking the Nakasendo. We finally arrive in Kyoto to see the magnificent Jidai Festival procession, which is a who’s-who of Japanese historical figures, including Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Ryoma Sakamoto, Saigo Takamori, Tomoe Gozen, and Murasaki Shikibu. You will be able to see Kyoto locals dressed up as samurai, merchants, artisans, courtiers, fishermen, and other groups across the spectrum of social classes. While in Kyoto, we also make time to see the Arashiyama District, the Golden Pavilion, Fushimi Inari Shrine and Fushimi Sake District, and the Gion Geisha District, which includes a Geisha Dinner Experience. After briefly stopping in Nara to see Todaiji Temple and meet the wild deer, we spend a day in Osaka to savor a Street Food Tour in Dotonbori, see Osaka Castle, and stroll teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka. On the final two days of the tour, we take a bullet train to Hiroshima to enjoy a cooking lesson at an Okonomiyaki Factory, and see the Peace Park, Peace Museum, and A-Bomb Dome. Then we take a ferry over to explore beautiful Miyajima Island, visiting Itsukushima Shrine, Daisho-in Temple, Senjokaku Hall, the Five-story Pagoda, and Mount Misen.

Our Discover Japan Jidai Festival with Hiroshima Group Tours offer mostly transportation via private coach, with a few public transit days and two rides on a bullet train), plus deluxe hotel accommodations (one Japanese-style accommodation), breakfast everyday and other meals as listed, and accompaniment by one of our friendly, professional English-speaking guides.
