A Discover Japan Sanja Festival with Hiroshima Tour offers to travelers looking to extend their Discover Japan Tour the addition of a few days in Hiroshima to their in- depth exploration of Japan. Experience Tokyo (with one day at the exciting Sanja Festival!), followed by Mount Fuji, Yudanaka, the Old Nakasendo Road, Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka, after which you will take a bullet train to Hiroshima and Miyajima for a delightful extension to our Discover Japan Sanja Festival itinerary.

Explore the incredible city of Tokyo starting with 2 days of sightseeing that takes you to the bustling stalls of Tsukiji Outer Market, the stately outer grounds of the Imperial Palace, the gorgeous Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, exciting Shibuya Crossing, pristine Meiji Shrine, and fashion-forward Harajuku. We include a lesson in sushi- making and half a day of free time to find your own memorable experience. Day 3 is the thrilling Sanja Festival, which takes place around the famed Sensoji Temple and the Asakusa District. One of Tokyo’s largest festivals, the Sanja Festival honors the founding of the temple, the three men who founded it, and the image of the Buddhist goddess Kannon worshiped there. The tour is most exciting on Day 3, when numerous portable shrines (or “mikoshi”) are carried around the city to great excitement and fanfare. Then we depart for Mount Fuji, to see the beauty of the sacred peak from Arakurayama Sengen Park and Lake Kawaguchi. Matsumoto is next: our gateway to Nagano and the Kiso Valley, where we pause for pictures with the Snow Monkeys of Yudanaka, see the famous works of Hokusai at Obuse, and walk the Old Nakasendo Road between the old-fashioned towns of Magome and Tsumago, through the enchanting Kiso Valley. Please check our itinerary to see our options for enjoying the Nakasendo. The tour continues to the ancient capital of Kyoto, where the famed temples and shrines on many a traveler’s must-see list make an appearance: the Golden Pavilion’s dainty phoenix, Kiyomizu Temple’s dramatic stage, the thousand gates of Fushimi Inari Grand Shrine. You can explore local sake shops, stroll though groves of bamboo, and have dinner with a Geisha in the Gion district. We stop in Nara to see the Great Buddha of Todaiji Temple and greet the wild deer in Nara Park. We stop in Osaka to behold breathtaking Osaka Castle, ponder the digital artworks of teamLab Botanical Garden Osaka, and taste delicious street foods in Dotonbori before we wrap up the tour in Hiroshima. Learn to make Okonomiyaki, stroll the Peace Park, view the A-Bomb Dome, capture the beauty of Hiroshima Bay through the floating gate of Itsukushima Shrine, and discover the many curious statues of Daisho-in Temple before the tour ends.

The transportation for our Discover Japan Sanja Festival tours is mostly facilitated by our sleek and comfortable private coach buses, with some public transportation and bullet train travel. Deluxe accommodations are included as listed on the itinerary, and all our tours are fully guided by our friendly, professional English-speaking tour guides.
