Travelers usually stay for at least 2 nights at a destination on a Japan Walking Tour, allowing for a more relaxed and in-depth visit. Your tour guide will give you local advice and tips for things to see and do in your spare time. Experience Japanese culture firsthand with a more flexible itinerary.

Visit Japan’s charming countryside and popular cities during the wondrous autumn season. This tour travels through the hidden gems of Japan’s rural areas and also hits famous attractions in well-known regions. Traveling in Japan during autumn grants visitors with cool, breezy temperatures and changing colors.

Begin your journey in Nikko, where you will pass through autumn scenery along the winding road of Irohazaka. From there, reach the Kegon Waterfall, one of Japan’s most beautiful waterfalls. Visit the lavishly decorated Toshogu Shrine, a mausoleum built for the founder of the Tokugawa Shogun. Here, you will get to experience seeing a Shinto ceremony held by a Shinto priest or priestess.

Tour through the busiest city in Japan, Tokyo, where our private guides and drivers will help you navigate through the city’s top attractions. Visit Tokyo’s historical monuments, including the Imperial Palace and the Asakusa Sensoji Temple. Then, head to Hakone and check out its open air museum before boarding a pirate ship cruise around Lake Ashi. Afterwards, enjoy an outstanding view of Mt. Fuji from the Komagatake Ropeway.

Head to the Mt. Fuji 5th Station for a closer look of this iconic peak, then travel through the brilliant scenery of the Japanese Alps to Matsumoto. See the original- standing Matsumoto Castle, then spend time at one of Japan’s largest wasabi farms. Spend a day in Takayama, a secluded “old” town that has maintained a traditional atmosphere and unique culture. Next, travel to the quaint village of Shirakwa-go, famous for its UNESCO designated gassho-zukuri architecture. Head to Kanazawa and enjoy a relaxing stroll through the distinguished Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan’s top three gardens.

Take a train to the famous city of Kyoto, where you will spend two days visiting the city’s top temples and shrines. Some noteworthy attractions include the Fushimi Inari Shrine, the Golden Pavilion, and Kiyomizu Temple. You will also have the chance to learn about origami, calligraphy, and the art of Ikebana in a traditional wooden townhouse. Wear a kimono for an entire day while exploring the city, practice Zen meditation in a temple, participate in a traditional green tea ceremony, and enjoy Kyoto cuisine with entertainment by an apprentice geisha (maiko).

Continue your trip to Nara, arguably the birthplace of Japanese Buddhism. Tour the renowned Todaiji Temple, home to a 15 meter tall Buddha statue. Then, visit the Nara Deer Park to see freely roaming Sika deer with an autumn colored background. In Osaka, you will get to make your own sushi with a professional sushi chef, experience a taiko (festival drums) lesson, and visit the historical Osaka Castle.
