Discover the stunning birds and wildlife of Fuji Five Lakes, Yudanaka Onsen, Kushiro, Lake Kussharo, and the Shiretoko Peninsula, and view snow monkeys, red- crowned cranes, Blakiston's Fish Owls, and many more.

Japan is a country of stunning natural splendor and wildlife, with diverse, rare creatures and birds that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. There are over 90,000 animals confirmed in the Land of the Rising Sun, and encounters with Japan's most unique and endearing wild birds and animals leave travelers enchanted. This 13- day tour is ideal for nature enthusiasts and globe-trotting photographers looking to discover Japan's experience its diverse array of delights for themselves.

Start with a special photography tour of the breathtaking Fuji Five Lakes region, where Mount Fuji - the sacred mountain of Japan - creates an unforgettable landscape. The Fuji Five Lakes area is a charming hilly landscape featuring a group of breathtaking lakes, as well as towns with traditional buildings and groves of ancient trees. The winter is the best time to photograph this region with most days being sunny and clear, making for the perfect chance to view the wonderful beauty of Mount Fuji.

We spend a day of cultural immersion in Matsumoto, visiting Matsumoto Castle, and in Obuse studying the works of the Edo-era genius artist Hokusai, before continuing to Yudanaka and the Snow Monkeys of the Jigokudani hot springs. These monkeys are the cleanest creatures around, and charm travelers while they bathe, groom, and play with one another in the natural hot springs.

Then we continue on to Hokkaido for a tour of the top locations on the island for birding and wildlife photography, starting with Tsurui and an introduction to the Red- crowned crane, known locally as "tancho". These elegant birds can be seen at Tsurumidai and the Ito Tancho Crane Sanctuary socializing and searching for food in vast, empty fields - perfect conditions for a picture. We continue to Lake Kussharo to find the white Whooper Swans floating over the water or walking along the shore. Explore the Notsuke Peninsula for Ezo Deer and Hokkaido Foxes before going to Rausu to scan the night skies for Blakiston's Fish Owl. Rausu sits on the breathtaking Shiretoko Peninsula - a UNESCO Heritage Site. Take a relaxing sea cruise to look for various sea birds, and find the colorful Harlequin Duck at Aidomari. There are even more sea birds to be seen from a sea cruise around Nemuro Peninsula, discover the magnificent Seller's Sea Eagle and White-Tailed Eagle at Lake Furen, and roam the spectacular Kiritappu Wetland.

Countless birds and wildlife await on this unforgettable birding and winter photography tour, which goes from Mount Fuji all the way up to gorgeous Hokkaido. Travel by local domestic flights and private coach with a private guide for the best Japan travel experience.
