Discover the summer beauty of Hokkaido and Honshu on our Hokkaido and Beyond: Summer Flowers and Nature Tour, which includes Sapporo, Otaru, Furano, Biei, Sounkyo, Kushiro, Nikko, Karuizawa, Yudanaka, and more.

Join our Hokkaido and Beyond Tour: Summer Flowers and Nature, which combines the most enchanting of Hokkaido’s summer scenes with delightful countryside regions outside of Tokyo. An ideal itinerary for nature- loving travelers looking for that perfect Japan summer vacation, this 13-day tour visits the very best of Hokkaido in summer: Sapporo, Otaru, Furano, Biei, Hokuryu, the Shiretoko Peninsula, Kushiro, Akan-Mashu National Park, Sounkyo, and Abashiri. Then we head down into Honshu, touring Nikko, Karuizawa, and Yudanaka.

Our tour begins in Sapporo, where we take you to the city’s top sights: the Historical Village of Hokkaido, Odori Park, the Susukino district, and Asahi Beer Brewery, among others. From there, we go to the port city of Otaru, known for its splendidly preserved canal, glass-blowers’ street, and sushi district. Then comes one of the tour’s biggest attractions: the rich flower fields of Furano and Biei. The aromatic lavender fields of Farm Tomita, the rainbow-colored hills of Shikisai no Oka, Blue Pond, and Panorama Road are some of Japan’s most magnificent summer scenes.

We continue on to Asahikawa to taste the local ramen, then enjoy the maze of sunflower fields in Hokuryu. We see spectacular waterfalls in Sounkyo, adorable Exo Foxes at Kitami, and the “drift ice” of Abashiri, before we travel to UNESCO World Heritage Shiretoko Peninsula. Enjoy a cruise around the peninsula and see the Ussuri Brown Bears in their natural habitat. Then we go to Akan Mashu National Park to learn the culture of the indigenous Ainu People. We see the world-famous Japanese cranes in the Kushiro Marshlands before departing Hokkaido for Tokyo.

The final leg of the tour involves a jaunt through the countryside north of Tokyo, beginning with the historic sites of Nikko. These include opulent Toshogu Shrine, Rinnoji Temple’s Treasure House, spectacular Kegon Falls, and idyllic Lake Chuzenji. We go from there to the mountain resort of Karuizawa, admire the magnificent Memorial Stone Church and the exhibits at the Karuizawa Museum of Contemporary Art. Finally, at Yudanaka, enjoy the curious company of the Japanese macaques, also called snow monkeys. Before returning to Tokyo via high-speed express train, we stop at Matsumoto to behold the imposing Matsumoto Castle - one of Japan's 12 original castles, and also called Crow Castle for its jet black exterior.
