Summer is the season of festivals and fireworks in Japan. Almost every weekend, communities around Japan stage lively firework displays colorfully enlivening the night skies. Summer throughout Japan culminates with large scale festivals, many with folk dancing. Many people wear Yukata (summer Kimono), and enjoy eating food, buying toys, or playing games. This is how most of Japanese people enjoy summer evening with friends, family, or lovers.

This tour features Japan Summer Highlights including the summer flowers in Hokkaido, three great summer festivals in Tohoku, fireworks, as well as the Awa Odori Folk Dance Festival in Tokushima. Summer festivals in Japan are bigger, brighter and louder, dancing to the beat of drum and flute.

This tour begins in Hokkaido, where we will visit Furano, Biei, Otaru, Sapporo, Shiraoi, Noboribetsu, Lake Toya and Hakodate. Summer is the best season to visit Hokkaido. It’s the prefecture with the mildest climate in summer. It’s not as hot and humid and it cools down at night. Furthermore, Hokkaido offers beautiful nature and flower fields which are best explored in summer.

Then we proceed to Aomori by crossing the Tsugaru Channel between the islands of Hokkaido and Honshu, via the undersea train tunnel. Explore the three great summer festivals in Tohoku; Nebuta, Kanto and Tanabata festivals, in the cities of Aomori, Akita and Sendai. Parades featuring chandelier-like lantern displays on bamboo poles, fearsome warrior floats, fireworks, and a sea of colorful origami decorations are just some of the highlights of these festivals.

In Tohoku regions, we will also visit Hiraizumi for a cultural interlude and stroll around the magnificent Japanese Cedar Trees and photogenic buildings at Chusonji Temple. Visit Matsushima, a picturesque bay full of pine tree covered small islands, where we explore ancient caves once frequented by meditating monks. Matsushima is famous for being one of the Three Most Beautiful Natural Sights in Japan. In Bandai Highlands, you will visit the Goshiki-numa (five-colored volcanic lakes). Here, mineral deposits from volcano eruption give each lake its own delicate color, ranging from reddish green to cobalt blue. Visit the old castle city of Aizuwakamatsu and the former post town of Ouchijuku. Allow yourself to also explore the wonderfully ornate temples and shrines which have been designated as World Heritage sites in Nikko.

Next we will continue our journey to one of the busiest city in the world. Let's enjoy a fully guided tour in Tokyo. Visit Tokyo's cultural landmarks, fashionable neighborhoods and diverse shopping districts. Learn how to make your own sushi with a professional sushi chef and savor your delicious creations. Then proceed to the Mt. Fuji- Hakone national park. See how impressive Mother Nature is when you are there. Overnight in a ryokan (traditional inn), where you can unwind in the hot- springs (onsen) and dine on gourmet kaiseki cuisine. We will then continue our journey and spend two days in the ancient city of Kyoto, where you will have exclusive access to the city's gardens, temples, shrines, and specialty shops. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy a green tea ceremony with an apprentice geisha (maiko). We will then take you visit Nara, where you will be inspired by the intricate architecture and towering monuments, including the Great Buddha statue, and you'll understand why this city is considered the birthplace of Buddhism in Japan. From Nara proceeding to Osaka, you will visit Osaka Castle and have a chance to see why Osaka is called the "night life city".

From Osaka , proceed to Kobe for some sake tasting at the Hakutsuru Sake Brewery Museum. Then across the Awaji Island via a chain of spectacular bridges to Shikoku Island. We will stop in at the Naruto Bridge Interpretive Centre to learn about the largest natural whirlpool in Japan and the engineering that went into the construction of these gigantic bridges. In Tokushima , visit the Awaodori Kaikan Hall to learn about the Awa Odori before enjoy the Awa Odori Festival in the evening. In Shikoku Island, we will also visit the open air museum of Shikoku Mura Village, see why Japanese gardens are famous in Takamatsu, and enjoy a relaxing boat ride, and take in the panoramic views of the Oboke Gorge.

From Shikoku Island, we will drive through the Shimanamikaido, a 60 kilometer long toll road that connects Japan's main island of Shikoku to the island of Honshu, passing over six small islands in the Seto Inland Sea, back to Honshu Island. Take in the views of the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridges standing among hundreds of islands beautifully scattered over the Seto Inland Sea at the Kirosan Observatory. Proceed to Hiroshima where you’ll visit the Peace Memorial Museum and surrounding Peace Park. On Miyajima Island, you will have a chance to view the famed 'floating' Torii Gate of Itsukushima Shrine. Visit the photogenic canal area of Kurashiki and the majestic castle at Himeji. On this tour you will also have a chance to savor the world famous Wagyu beef in Kobe.
