Japan is often recognized for its role in technological breakthroughs, but its culture can be traced back to religious practices that have influenced today’s society. This tour will take you to the top scenic, spiritual, and cultural places in Japan. Many of the historic sites are located in areas surrounded by nature, rewarding visitors with charming views that invoke a sense of tranquility.

Begin in Tokyo with a private guide and driver to help you navigate through historical landmarks, trendy neighborhoods, and lively shopping districts. You will even have the chance to learn how to make your own sushi with a professional chef. Continue to Hakone and enjoy the natural scenery of Mt. Fuji and Owakudani, an active volcanic zone.

Visit the dramatic Black Crow Castle (Matsumoto Castle) before traveling to Takayama, located amongst the Japanese Alps. Due to the area’s remoteness, these places are beautifully preserved and have developed their own culture different from the rest of Japan. Tour the charming village of Shirakawa-go, best known for their gassho-zukuri architectural style. In Kanazawa, stroll through the beautiful Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan’s top three landscape gardens.

Spend two days in Kyoto, the center of traditional Japanese culture. The gardens and temples located in the city are ranked as the best places to view cherry blossoms. Experience a traditional green tea ceremony, meet a maiko (apprentice geisha), and watch an elegant kimono fashion show. Make your way to Arashiyama, located on the outskirts of Kyoto, famous for its bamboo forest and Zen garden at Tenryuji Temple. After Kyoto, we will travel to Osaka, the second largest metropolitan city in Japan. Experience the city’s vibrant nightlife and its bustling shopping districts.

Our group will also visit the famous Himeji Castle and the photogenic canal area of Kurashiki. In Hiroshima, experience the momentous Peace Memorial Park and its A-Bomb Dome. Head to Miyajima Island, one of the most scenic places in Japan, to view the famed “floating” torii gate of Itsukushima Shrine. Then, drive through the Shimanami Kaido, a beautiful 60km long toll road that connects the Honshu Island to the island of Shikoku. Untouched my mass tourism, Shikoku is steeped in colorful legend and is famous for its 88 pilgrimage temples.

Take a ferry to Wakayama and visit Koyasan, where you will get to stay overnight at a temple lodging and try vegetarian monk cuisine. In the morning, you will have the opportunity to join the monks in their meditation practice to further understand their spiritual lifestyle. Afterwards, stroll through the Kumana Kodo Pilgrimage Trail, a UNESCO World Heritage site that passes many temples and shrines. From there, visit the tallest waterfall in Japan, Nachi Falls. Proceed to Ise Grand Shrine, one of the most important shrines in Japan. Finally, spend time in the centuries-old Okage Yokocho District and Mikimoto Pearl Island.
