Japan has one of the most well-defined and dynamic cultural identities in the world. Our cultural tours will take you to Japan’s odd juxtaposition of icons ranging from the traditionally profound to the adorably trendy, and everything in-between.

Japan is a society whose contemporary art, music, and fashion have left an unforgettable mark on the rest of the world. Anime otaku culture has an especially tremendous impact in Western countries, and with this in mind we hand-picked many of Japan’s anime must-sees into our carefully crafted tour itineraries. The Otaku Capital of the World is undoubtedly in Akihabara’s Electric Town, where building fronts are festooned with broad, colorful signs showing off the trendiest anime, cafés are designed with cutesy quirks, and shops fronted by iconic characters push every sort of anime knick-knack, from keychains to DVDs to action figures. Add to this a trip to the Studio Ghibli Museum and Odaiba’s Palette Town to round out the anime cultural experience.

The classical figures and traditions of old Japan paint across the imagination of the West with a thick brush, for who hasn’t at least heard of samurai, geisha, kimono, green tea, or sushi? Our tours present you with a myriad of experiences designed to whet your appetite for traditional Japanese culture, including a visit to a Ninja Village, a cup of tea and conversation with a Maiko (apprentice geisha), and a nice soak in an old-fashioned onsen hot spring bath. Kyoto and Nara are the most vital places to get the feudal Japanese experience, where streets are dotted with old Buddhist temples, shrines, and castles.

Based on this information, we will create an initial “sketch” itinerary that includes an outline of recommended travel routes, destinations, accommodations, transportation type, and services we can provide.

Guests requiring such individualized assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied companion who can provide it. These tours are tailored to the energetic traveler; guests should feel comfortable walking from 4 to 10 miles a day depending on the tour and destination.
