for a top-tier itinerary featuring Hokkaido during one of

beauty of Hokkaido during summer with its fields of
countless lavenders and sunflowers, or winter with its
snow monsters and frozen waterfalls. But the fall foliage
of Hokkaido is one of the most enchanting times to visit
the northern island and partake of its unique culture,
delicious seasonal cuisine, and refreshing hot spring
baths.
Depart Sapporo for the breathtaking autumn world of
Jozankei Onsen. Hike the Futami-Jozan Walking Trail
along a mountain stream surrounded by brilliant red and
yellow leaves. Enjoy a rejuvenating soak in one of the
local onsen hot spring baths at your onsen
accommodation, and then take a canoe down the
Toyohira River for views of the stunning natural
landscape the next day. Try a local delicacy while in
Jozankei – eggs that have been hardboiled black in the
local hot springs, said to extend your life by seven
years. We proceed from there to Niseko, home of the
Shinsennuma Marsh Natural Recreation Forest, which
offers a pleasant walk on a raised boardwalk
surrounded by beautiful autumn leaves and the sounds
of local birds. While in Niseko, enjoy handmade cream
puffs and gelato and Niseko Milk Kobo Farm and make
your own potato chips at a farm in Yakumo.
The tour proceeds to Hakodate, home of Fort
Goryokaku – Western style military fortress turned
spectacular star-shaped public park, the trees of which
you’ll see dressed in their fall finest. Ride an airborne
gondola on the ropeway up Mount Hakodate to see
spectacular views of the cityscape, and visit the morning
market to browse fresh seasonal seafood and produce.
Then depart for Lake Toya via the road through Onuma
Quasi-National Park, and stop for a boat ride in Lake
Onuma at the foot of Mt. Komagatake. Then view the
eruption of the local geysers and enjoy an all-natural
footbath before arriving at Lake Toya.
While in Lake Toya, ride a horse through a course
around the lake near the scenic mountain landscape,
and eat an organic meal prepared in a Dutch oven. Take
a ropeway to the top of Mount Usu and enjoy the
thrilling sight of clear Lake Toya surrounded by autumn
foliage before returning to Sapporo. Spend the last day
in Sapporo browsing the shopping centers around
Sapporo Station or in the Susukino entertainment
district, then enjoy your choice of dinner featuring a
Sapporo specialty: Sapporo Ramen, Soup Curry, or
Genghis Khan.
