Join this luxury winter tour of Hokkaido to enjoy the best
winter attractions Hokkaido has to offer.
Begin by departing Sapporo for Tokachigawa, a small
country town where you can learn to make your own
soba noodles before driving a dog sled through a 10 km
course surrounded by stunning winter landscape. Relax
in a healing onsen bath before departing for Furano for
some backcountry snowshoeing across light powder
snow. Shop for local handicrafts at Ningle Terrace,
which creates the atmosphere of a hidden forest village.
We proceed through Biei to Asahikawa to visit
Asahiyama Zoo, known for its adorable penguin parade!
Taste your choice of Asahikawa’s delicious ramen and
sample the sake of a local brewery to warm up before
heading back out into the snow.
Hokkaido is known for its snow festivals, and you can
experience one of the most unique winter festivals in the
world at the Sounkyo Ice Fall Festival, where a rainbow
of scintillating colors playing across waterfalls frozen in
time create a dreamlike winter fantasy. Then we visit the
port city of Otaru, to explore the city’s various must-
sees: the Otaru Canal, Sakaimachi Street, Glass-
blowing Workshops, the Sushi District, the Music Box
Museum, and more…before returning to Sapporo.
Take some time to enjoy beautiful Lake Toya – one of
Japan’s clearest lakes, where you can learn to make
your own soba from scratch, drink Nikka whiskey, and
relax in a local onsen. Spend the last couple days in
Sapporo checking out the top sights and experiences of
Hokkaido’s capital city. Nijo Market, Odori Park,
Sapporo Beer Brewery, Hokkaido Shrine, Sapporo TV
Tower, Okura Ski Jump Observatory, and more… but
don’t forget to get your souvenir shopping done at the
department stores in Susukino.
