Follow your guide through Tokyo’s cultural landmarks,
fashionable neighborhoods, and diverse shopping
districts. Exploring the city on foot allows guests to
ensure they do not miss out on what the city has to offer.
Visit the Tsukiji Outer Market, Asakusa Sensoji Temple,
and learn to make your very own sushi lunch. Spend
some time in Hakone and at Mt. Fuji, taking in the
stunning sights before checking in to your ryokan
(traditional Japanese inn) for the night. Unwind in the
hot springs (onsen) at the inn and dine on gourmet
kaiseki cuisine. Take a ride on the high-speed bullet
train as you transfer to the ancient city of Kyoto, where
you will spend the next few nights. Your first day trip
from Kyoto takes you to Hiroshima, a city wih a tragic
history. Make your way through the Memorial Peace
Park and visit the A-Bomb Museum, learning about the
history of the city and its bright future ahead. On
Miyajima Island, take in the sight of the famous
Itsukushima Shrine, the "floating" torii gate. In the
evening, transfer back to Kyoto via bullet train.
Spend the next few days visiting sites in Kyoto and
trekking along pilgrimage trails. In Arashiyama, visit
Otagi Nenbutsu-ji Temple, the Toriimoto Preserved
District, an the famous Tenryuji Temple. Enjoy a short
hike through Fushimi Inari Shrine, which weaves
through the mountains before taking a break at
Gekkeikan Sake Brewery, where guests will enjoy
samples of sake. On Day 9 of the tour, walk through
Kyoto starting along Philosopher's Path, which
surrounds Ginkakuji, or Silver Pavilion. Take in a view of
the city from atop Mt. Daimongi before visiting Chion-in
Temple, home to the largest temple bell in Japan.
Weave through the preserved streets of Ninenzaka and
Sannenzaka as you make your way up to Kiyomizu
Temple, one of the most celebrated temples in Japan.
Guests on this tour will also see Kinkakuji, also known
as Golden Pavilion, whose top two floors are covered in
gold leaf. Before leaving Kyoto, enjoy a geisha
performance while enjoying traditional Kyoto cuisine.
Your next few days will be spent hiking trails throughout
Nara and Koyasan. In Nara, the Kasuga Mountain Trail
takes us through the Mount Kasuga Primeval Forest
before reaching the summit of Mt. Wakakusa. Stop by
Todaiji Temple, which houses one of Japan's largest
bronze statues of Buddha, before traveling to Koyasan.
Hike along the ancient Koyasan Choishi-michi Trail to
Koyasan's Temple Settlement, where we will stay
overnight. Participate in morning meditation with the
monks and visit various sites around the sacred
Koyasan. Stop at Okunoin Temple, Kongobuji Temple,
and Danjo Garan before heading to Osaka for your last
night of the tour.
