Plan a Luxury Japan Winter Private Tour to experience the beautiful winter season, together with historic treasures, immersive cultural adventures, delicious cuisine, and of course, breathtaking natural splendor.

Explore Tokyo’s most popular locations. Tour bustling Toyosu Fish Market, walk the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, browse the fashions of Harajuku, shop in upscale Ginza, see the historic treasures of the Nezu Museum, stroll peaceful Meiji Shrine, and behold Sensoji’s enormous red lantern. Next, visit Hakone, and take a cruise on Lake Ashi in a pirate ship, ride the Hakone Ropeway to the volcanic landscape of Owakudani, and view creative art installations at the Open Air Museum. In Takayama, you will be able to browse the stalls of the Morning Market, tour the old Takayama Jinya government office, stroll past traditional buildings of Takayama Old Town, and see colorful parade floats at the Yatai Kaikan Museum. Next is the UNESCO World Heritage Shirakawago region, which preserves old farmhouses built in the time- honored “gassho-zukuri” architectural style. While there, take a class where you learn to make your own soba noodles!

Then we go to Kanazawa, home of beautiful Kenrokuen Garden – one of the Three Great Gardens in Japan. Kenrokuen was designed to be lovely in all seasons; and this Japanese landscape garden is spectacular in winter. While still in Kanazawa, visit the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, and explore the Nagamachi Samurai District. We head in the direction of the ancient city of Kyoto, stopping along the way at iconic Osaka Castle and Nara’s Todaiji Temple with nearby Deer Park. Then experience the time-honored temples and traditional atmosphere of Kyoto (many of them protected as UNESCO World Heritage Sites), visiting the Golden Pavilion, Kiyomizu Temple, Nijo Castle, Tenryuji Temple and Garden, and Kodaiji Temple – where you can learn Zen Meditation and participate in a real Green Tea Ceremony. Day 1

Welcome to Tokyo

Welcome to Tokyo! We will arrange your private transportation from the airport. Please look for the guide with the All Japan Tours sign.

Day 2

Tokyo (Toyosu Fish Market Tour / Meiji Shrine / Harajuku / Nezu Museum / Shibuya Crossing)

You may begin your morning with a tour of Tokyo's Toyosu Fish Market. Next, you may enjoy the natural atmosphere of Meiji Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. Enjoy taking a stroll around Harajuku and surround yourself with fashion shops filled with the latest trends. Although it is also a great place for people-watching, if shopping isn't on your to-do list. Then take a trip to the Nezu Museum, where you can enjoy an assortment of pre- modern Japanese and East Asian art that Nezu Kaichiro collected. After the bombing in World War II destroyed some of the collection, Kaichiro's son continued to add to it to ensure that his father's collection remained impressive. After leaving the museum, why not take a trip to Shibuya? Interesting places here include the statue of the faithful dog Hachiko and the famous Shibuya Crossing.

Day 3

Tokyo (Asakusa Sensoji Temple & Nakamise Street / Tokyo SkyTree / Imperial Palace East Garden / Ginza)

After breakfast, you can be taken to Asakusa – a grouping of sacred buildings belonging to two separate religions. Here, you will see Japan's two main religions living together in harmony. This is an active place of worship where you can see the largest paper lantern in Japan. One piece of this area is the Asakusa Kannon Temple, or Senso-ji, one of Tokyo's oldest and most famous temples. The first section of the temple that most people will visit is the Kaminarimon, Kaminari Gate, which serves as the entrance to the market. This temple belongs to its own independent sect of Buddhism. You will also be able to explore the Nakamise Market, which is located right after the temple's outer gates. This is a traditional-style shopping street with several centuries of history. Then experience panoramic views of the city at 350 meters high at the Tokyo Skytree. These are the highest observation decks in Japan, and the tower is one of the tallest structures in the world. Next, we can head over to the Imperial Palace to see the beautiful East Garden. This is the current residence of Japan’s Imperial Family and a historic landmark. At night, enjoy shopping in Ginza – known worldwide for its high-end boutique shops and department stores.

Day 4

Hakone (Lake Ashi Cruise / Hakone Ropeway / Owakudani / Open Air Museum)

Today, you will board a Lake Ashi Cruise where you can enjoy and appreciate Hakone’s natural scenery. We will take a 20-minute ropeway ride from Togendai to Owakudani. Along the ropeway, weather permitting, there will be great views of Mt. Fuji in the distance. While in Owakudani, visitors will have the chance to see hot springs and sulfurous fumes along the trails of an active volcanic zone. Next, we will visit the Hakone Open Air Museum which successfully attempts to create a harmonic balance of nature and art by exhibiting various sculptures on its grounds in combination with views of the surrounding valley and mountains.

Day 5

Mt Fuji (Lake Kawaguchi / Itchiku Kubota Art Museum)

Today, we will visit Lake Kawaguchi, one of the Fuji five lakes with the best views of the sacred mountain and autumn leaves during fall. Afterwards we will tour the Kubota Itchiku Art Museum and view the Tsujigahana silk dyed artworks, regarded heavily as one of the lost arts of Japan.

Day 6

Yamanouchi (Snow Monkey Park)

Today, take a trip to Yamanouchi, and the incredible Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park, which presents visitors with the rare chance to view the Japanese macaque, better known as the "Snow Monkey", taking a bath with dozens of its friends in a natural hot spring. Guests can watch the monkeys interact and play with each other, though human interaction is prohibited. After enjoying the monkey park, head to Yudanaka Onsen to enjoy a hot spring for yourself, as well as a Japanese kaiseki dinner at your Ryokan.

Matsumoto (Matsumoto Castle / Nakamachi District)

Today, travel to Matsumoto Castle (Black Crow Castle), one of the twelve remaining original castles of Japan. Enjoy the traditional ambience found in the Nakamachi District, a well-preserved quarter of Matsumoto which includes “Frog Street” – a row of small shops and cafes housed in old-fashioned buildings, the entrance of which is guarded by a frog statue.

Takayama (Morning Market / Takayama Jinya / Old Town / Yatai Kaikan Museum)

We can start our day with the Takayama Morning Market, where visitors can taste local farm products and snacks. After strolling through streets that are reminiscent of the Edo Period (1600 -1868), you may then tour Takayama Jinya. This building served as the local government office headed by the officials dispatched from Edo and was in official use until 1969. Then, stroll through the beautifully preserved Old Town. Afterwards, experience the traditional atmosphere at the Takayama Yatai Kaikan which exhibits life-sized floats and instruments used in the Takayama Festivals.

Day 9

Shirakawa-go (Shiroyama Viewpoint / Gassho-zukuri Minkaen / Soba Making Experience)

On this day, travel to the UNESCO World Heritage site in the rural area of Shirakawa-go. Ogimachi Village is the main attraction, where we will walk past thatched roof farm houses and cultivated fields to see unspoiled Edo period wooden buildings. Once there, we will go to the Shiroyama Viewpoint, as well as the Gassho-zukuri Minkaen, which is an open-air museum of farmhouses and structures relocated to this area. Wada-ke House is the largest farmhouse in the area, which belongs to the village leader, and is now open for visitors to have a look inside. There is also an opportunity to have a soba- making experience, and enjoy the soba lunch you made!

Day 10

Kanazawa (Kenrokuen Garden / 21st Century Art Museum / Nagamachi Samurai District - Nomura-ke)

Begin the day with a trip to Kenrokuen Garden - one of the Three Great Gardens of Japan. Stroll along the garden and enjoy the view of trees, stones, bridges and teahouses. Next, visit one of Japan’s most popular museums: the 21st Century Museum. It showcases contemporary artists from Japan and all over the world. The museum was designed without a front or back in order to encourage viewers to approach the art from multiple angles. Then step back through time in the Nagamachi Samurai District where many old samurai residences remain at the foot of the former Kanazawa Castle. One such house, the Nomura family residence, has been fully restored and filled with artifacts of the time period to reflect the samurai class.

Day 11

First Class Express Train to Osaka, Osaka (Osaka Castle), Nara (Todaiji Temple / Nara Deer Park)

After breakfast, you will transfer to Kanazawa Station and board the JR express train to Osaka (Green car train tickets included). When you arrive in Osaka, take some time to see Osaka Castle, which was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in aims for it to be the center of a new, unified Japan. Then, we will visit one of Japan’s most famous temples and a landmark of Nara, Todaiji Temple. Outside the temple, interact with the wild deer of Nara Deer Park. There are special deer crackers available at every corner of the area.

Day 12

Kyoto (Nijo Castle / Golden Pavilion / Arashiyama - Tenryuji Temple & Garden - Bamboo Grove - Togetsukyo Bridge)

This morning, explore Japan's old capital of Kyoto by traveling to Nijo Castle, a designated UNESCO world heritage site and a perfect architectural example of castles from the feudal era of Japan. Next, we will visit the Golden Pavilion covered with 18-karat gold leaf. This three-story structure was originally built by the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1397. Then we will tour the Arashiyama district. First is a visit to see Tenryuji Temple where you can catch a glimpse of the traditional rock landscape garden design. Then proceed through a dense bamboo grove, past several small shrines, tea shops and private houses before arriving at the Togetsukyo Bridge over Hozu River.

Day 13

Kyoto (Kiyomizu Temple / Kimono Wearing Experience / Kodaiji Temple - Zen Meditation & Green Tea Ceremony / Gion Geisha District - Kyoto Kaiseki Cuisine with Geisha Perfromance)

Today, we will tour Kiyomizu-dera, a famous temple in Japan that is best known for its large wooden stage that overlooks a hillside of natural scenery. We will begin our day by wearing the traditional clothing of Japan, Kimono, which are still widely popular to wear for important and formal events. It is also common to don the Kimono when visiting Kyoto to further enjoy the traditional atmosphere of the city. Then, we will travel to Kodaiji Temple, which is a lavish temple built in the memory of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Here, we can experience Zen meditation and a Green Tea Ceremony. You can go from there to view the cherry blossoms at Maruyama Park, including the rare "weeping cherry tree". We will end our day in the Gion Geisha District, where its streets are lined with ochaya (teahouses), exclusive establishments where guests are entertained by Geisha and Maiko. Here, we will enjoy traditional Kyoto Cuisine while viewing a special Geisha performance.
