world. This itinerary brings you and your kids to the top
destinations in Japan, and includes not only days of fun
activities, but the opportunity to broaden your child’s
mind with experiences in arts, sciences, and especially
Japanese history, supplemented by immersive cultural
activities.
Start off in Tokyo, and experience 7 days of all the
modern excitement that the city is known for. Shop
colorful fashions at Shibuya, Harajuku’s Takeshita
Street, and Omotesando. Discover some of Tokyo’s
history at Asakusa Sensoij Temple. Kids who enjoy
anime will love visiting Akihabara Electric Town’s colorful
anime shops, and Ikebukuro’s Sunshine City with the
Pokémon Mega Center and “Namja Town” theme park.
Visit the Odaiba entertainment district and see the
massive Gundam Statue, play games at Joypolis, and
study the latest discoveries at the Miraikan – the
National Museum of Emerging Science. Discover the
colorful characters and imagination of the Ghibli
Museum, and explore the fun-filled fantasy world of
Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea.
Then travel to the gorgeous region of Hakone to take in
breathtaking views including Mount Fuji, if the weather
is clear. Cruise Lake Ashi in a pirate ship, soar over
Hakone in an airborne gondola, and explore the boiling
pools of Owakudani. Discover the art installations of the
Hakone Open-Air Museum, some of which are
interactive for children. From there, take a speedy Bullet
Train to Iga-Ueno and the Ninja Museum. Celebrating
the culture of the Iga ninja school with immersive
exhibits, the building itself is an old ninja house,
complete with trap doors and hidden rooms.
Finally, we continue on to Kyoto and Nara, two of the
oldest cities in the country, and the heartland of
traditional Japanese culture for over a thousand years.
We visit some of Kyoto’s most important historic sites –
Tenryuji Temple, the Golden Pavilion, Kiyomizu Temple,
Nijo Castle, and Fushimi Inari Shrine. While in Kyoto,
you and your kids will have the chance to try on a stylish
kimono, and at Kodaiji Temple, you’ll participate in an
authentic green tea ceremony and learn the basics of
Zen meditation. At Nara, visit the great temple of Todaiji,
known for its massive Buddha statue, and meet the wild
deer that gather in the park outside.
