This 15-day Luxury Private Art & Architecture of Japan Tour offers the best of Japan's architectural prowess and artistic inspiration for you to enjoy. Reaching across Japan from Tokyo over to Kyoto and down to Takamatsu, this itinerary includes many of Japan’s top museums, showcasing Japanese, Western, and Buddhist religious art, as well as intriguing structures – some historic, some built by Japan’s foremost architects. We fill out the rest with experiences that immerse you in traditional Japanese culture for a one- of-a-kind trip to Japan.

Begin in Tokyo, enjoying the exhibits at the National Art Center, the Mori Art Museum, the Nezu Museum, and the Suntory Museum of Art, and the architecture of Omotesando and Aoyama, designed by Kengo Kuma, Tadao Ando, Kenzo Tange, SANAA, and other celebrated modern architects. Then spend a day in Hakone, admiring the artistic creations at the Open-Air Museum and looking for a glimpse of Mount Fuji on the Hakone Ropeway.

Take a first-class Bullet Train to Kanazawa to browse the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, before you step back in time, strolling past traditional teahouses in the Higashi Chaya District, or the old samurai mansions of Nagamachi. Then admire the beauty of Kenrokuen Garden – one of Japan’s Three Great Gardens. Immerse yourself in the traditional culture by trying on a stylish kimono, before we travel to the ancient city of Kyoto, stopping along the way to look at the international collection of artifacts in the Miho Museum.

Being the center of Japanese culture for over a thousand years, Kyoto is the best place to appreciate traditional Japanese art and architecture. Discover historic treasures such as the Golden Pavilion, Kiyomizu Temple, and Nijo Castle, and appreciate the beauties inside the Kyoto National Museum and the Garden of Fine Arts Kyoto. Then experience the time-honored culture of ancient Japan for yourself. Study Calligraphy, Origami, and Ikebana (flower-arranging) at a traditional townhouse, experience Zen Meditation and a green tea ceremony with the monks at Kodaiji Temple, and enjoy a Geisha Performance during a dinner of Kyoto Kaiseki Cuisine.

We go from there to Naoshima “Art Island”, stopping on the way to see magnificent Himeji Castle, the Ohara Museum of Art, and the Kurashiki Canals. Then explore the thought-provoking art museums and installations across Naoshima (many designed by Pritzker Prize- winner Tadao Ando, including the Lee Ufan Museum, the Chichu Art Museum, the Art House Project, and the Ando Museum. Stay overnight at the Benesse House – a combination art gallery / hotel. Then visit the Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art and the heavenly Ritsurin Koen Park before we wrap up the tour at Awaji Island, exploring the Miracle Planet Botanical Museum, the Honpukuji Water Temple, and the Yumebutai 100- stepped Garden.
