Naoshima Island

Naoshima Island is situated in the Seto Inland Sea as part of Kagawa Prefecture. This scenic resort area is better known as art Island, featuring a wide variety of modern art museums and architectural housing projects for visitors to explore. While visitors arrive at the Miyanoura Port of Naoshima, guests are immediately welcomed by the “Red Pumpkin”, a symbol of Naoshima by Yayoi Kusama. A yellow version of the pumpkin is also available at the pier facing the Benesse House. The luxuries accommodations of the Benesse House has become a must stay resort on Naoshima, as a paradise featuring a Mediterranean atmosphere with a mixture of an artistic vibe offered nowhere else in Japan. Travelers can tour the island filled with both free public institutions and other venues dedicated to modern art which require a reasonable entrance fee on rental bicycles. The Benesse Corporation oversees the art museums and installations on not only Naoshima, but also the neighboring islands also dedicated towards art. The world-famous architect Tadao Ando designed the Chichu Art Museum and Benesse House Museum featuring open spaces and infusing art with nature. In addition to art, Naoshima also offers sandy beaches, local restaurants featuring specialty cuisines and varies souvenir shops for visitors to enjoy.
