Single Room

Single room types are rooms for single room occupants.
One person will be occupying the hotel room throughout the tour.

Twin Room

Twin room types are rooms set for two people who will occupy one room, but will have two separate beds.

A double room is a room that has one bed for two people to share.

Triple Room

A triple room is one room where three people may share the same room. It has three separate beds.

Japanese Style Room

A Japanese-style room traditionally does not have a western-style bed, it is a tatami floor room with futon bedding. However, if you prefer a western-style bed, you may request one though we cannot guarantee it.

Please note: If you would like to request neighboring rooms next to your traveling companions, you and your traveling companions must have the same room types in order to be next to each other. For example, if you have requested a double room, but your traveling companions have requested a twin, or triple room, then neighboring rooms cannot be accommodated. However, if both you and your traveling companions match in room type, then neighboring rooms will likely be arranged for your convenience.

This 10-day Best of Japan Private Luxury Tour takes travelers on an extended route that offers a look into this island nation's unique culture and deep history. In this itinerary, travelers can enjoy sights from classical Japanese history as well as more contemporary points of interest, starting in Tokyo – one of the largest cities in the world. Here you'll have the chance to wander the East Gardens of the Imperial Palace, browse traditional goods in the street market outside Tokyo’s oldest temple, take a sushi-making lesson from a professional chef, and view the magnificent cityscape in a panoramic view from Tokyo Skytree. Continue from there to Hakone, and enjoy views of breathtaking and iconic Mt. Fuji.

Continue on to Hiroshima, where you'll find the Hiroshima Peace Park - built not simply as a memory of the detonation of the A-bomb over the city in 1945, but as a continual hope for peace, encouraging visitors to think with hope on a peaceful future. Nearby is Miyajima Island, where the great red gate of Itsukushima Shrine can be seen appearing to float atop the water.

From there, the tour winds its way down to Kyoto and Nara, and hundreds of preserved temples and shrines, including the Golden Pavilion (Kinkaku-ji), built by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and covered in gold leaf; Fushimi Inari, with thousands of red torii gates; and Todai-ji, the oldest wooden structure in Japan with an adjacent park home to hundreds of wild deer. While in Kyoto, you'll also enjoy a traditional Japanese kaiseki dinner accompanied by Maiko entertainment, as well as a more modern silent motion performance at the GEAR Theatre. Tokyo (Tsukiji Outer Fish Market Tour / Sushi Making & Lunch / Meiji Shrine / Harajuku - Takeshita District & Omotesando)

After breakfast, enjoy a tour of Tsukiji Outer Market, an outdoor open market area which is all that remains of the old Tsukiji Wholesale Fish Market. This shopping street is filled with shops and restaurants where you can sample fresh seafood, local produce, and street food, as well as shop for other food-related goods. Next, learn how to create your own sushi with a professional sushi chef. Note: For the Sushi Making Experience, if you are a vegetarian, on a gluten-free diet, have a seafood allergy, or don't eat raw fish, please contact us for other ingredient options. From there, we will enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the Meiji Shrine, dedicated to Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. This pristine nature spot is densely forested with over 350 types of trees, and is a place of calm amid turbulent Tokyo. Then, we take a tour of Harajuku, browsing around the Takeshita District and Omotesando. The Takeshita District is an active and exciting youth fashion shopping area full of stylish boutiques that push the latest trends and avant-garde apparel. Omotesando, on the other hand, is Tokyo’s Champs Elysees – a broad fashion boulevard lined with zelkova trees, known as the go-to street to find contemporary, designer wear and accessories from brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, and Prada, all in chic, modern store buildings.

Day3

Tokyo (Asakusa Sensoji Temple & Nakamise Street / Tokyo SkyTree / Imperial Palace East Garden)

In the morning, we travel to Asakusa Sensoji Temple, in Tokyo’s Asakusa district. Enter by way of the Kaminarimon “Thunder Gate,” in which hangs an enormous red paper lantern. Don’t forget to look up to see the dragon sculpture under the lantern! Walk through the Nakamise District – a street lined with shops selling traditional goods of all kinds, before approaching Sensoji Temple. Take some time to explore Tokyo’s oldest temple and shrine complex. Next, ascend to the observation deck of Tokyo SkyTree – the tallest tower in Japan (and one of the tallest in the world), providing incredible panoramic 360-degree views of the Tokyo cityscape. Even Mount Fuji is visible on clear days! Then, we will go to the Imperial Palace and see the beautiful East Garden. The grounds contain the ruins of Old Edo Castle, as well as a stately Japanese landscape garden. Tonight, enjoy a delicious Yakitori dinner.

Mt Fuji (5th Station - Depending on the weather condition), Hakone (Hakone Ropeway / Owakudani)

If the weather is in our favor, we will travel to Mt. Fuji’s 5th station, the most popular and convenient spot to enjoy views of the iconic mountain. From there, we take a ride in an airborne gondola on the Hakone Ropeway, which offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape, as well as excellent views of Mount Fuji on a clear day. The gondola lands in Owakudani, where you will have the chance to see roiling hot springs and sulfurous fumes along the trails of the rugged volcanic landscape. At night, enjoy the onsen hot spring at your Ryokon, and a traditional Japanese kaiseki dinner.

First Class Bullet Train to Hiroshima, Hiroshima (Peace Memorial Park & Museum)

After breakfast, transfer to Odawara Station and board the bullet train to Hiroshima (Green car train tickets included). Our first destination of the day is the austere, stately Peace Memorial Park, which is by far the most significant feature of Hiroshima. The Peace Park consists of the Peace Memorial (or “A-Bomb”) Museum, the A-Bomb Dome, and an awe-inspiring Cenotaph for the victims. The Museum, designed by Pritzker Prize- winning architect Kenzo Tange, details the history of Hiroshima leading up to the day of detonation, the events of the day, and the suffering that resulted from it. It ends in a hope for a peaceful world, free of nuclear weapons. You can also see the UNESCO-inscribed Hiroshima Peace Memorial (known locally as the “Genbaku Dome”), which was formerly the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall. The building was the only one in the area to partially survive the blast, and is now preserved in a state of arrested ruin. Later this afternoon, transfer to Miyajima for a relaxing evening. Enjoy the onsen and a traditional kaiseki dinner at the Ryokan.

Day6

Miyajima Island (Itsukushima Shrine / Senjokaku Hall / Daisho- in Temple / Mount Misen - Ropeway)

Today we will travel to Miyajima, where we will see Itsukushima Shrine. It is famous for being uniquely built over water, and its large torii gate that appears to “float” over the sea during high tide. Then stop by Senjokaku Hall, an incomplete structure dedicated to Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Then, we will tour the Daisho-in Temple, where you can admire its hundreds of Buddhist statues, including the 500 statues of Buddha’s disciples, statues of Jizo (the Buddhist guardian of children), and even adorable little “baby monk” statues. It is located at the base of Mount Misen, which is where we will experience a scenic ropeway ride. At the top, you will get spectacular views of the Seto Inland Sea and, on clear days, you may be able to see at far as Hiroshima city.

Day7

First Class Bullet Train to Osaka, Osaka (Osaka Castle), Nara (Todaiji Temple / Nara Deer Park)

After breakfast, transfer to Hiroshima Station and board the bullet train to Osaka (Green car train tickets included). First, visit Osaka Castle, which was originally built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi during the Warring States Period. This magnificent castle retains its traditional exterior, though inside is a modern museum about Hideyoshi and the castle’s history. Then, we will travel to the ancient city of Nara, where we will visit one of Japan’s most famous temples and an icon of the city: Todaiji Temple, which is home to the Great Buddha of Nara – a massive seated image of Rushana-butsu, known as the “Cosmic Buddha”. Outside the temple, interact with the friendly wild deer of Nara Deer Park. For guests who would like to feed the deer, there are special deer crackers available for sale at every corner of the park.

Kyoto (Golden Pavilion / Arashiyama - Tenryuji Temple & Garden - Bamboo Grove - Togetsukyo Bridge / GEAR Theatre)

In the morning, we view one of Kyoto’s most coveted sights – the elegant Golden Pavilion. The temple’s shimmering golden walls can be seen reflected in the Mirror Pond below, but don’t miss the dainty phoenix ornament sitting on the roof! We then head to Arashiyama to visit Tenryuji Temple, a fascinating Zen Buddhist Temple with a gorgeous traditional Japanese landscape garden that has survived in its original state for centuries. Then proceed on a path through the nearby Bamboo Grove, where towering green stalks create an almost otherworldly feeling of awe and mystery as you walk the pathway through the center. Continue from there to Togetsukyo Bridge, which was originally built spanning the Katsura River hundreds of years ago. It’s now one of the best places to view the natural splendor of Arashiyama. Tonight, prepare for a spectacle unlike anything you've ever seen. At the GEAR Theater live show, 5 human performers play "robots" who come to life and learn through creative playfulness and skill how they might approach humanity. GEAR uses only non-verbal motion – dance, performance art, and stage magic – to delight audiences of any age and language.

Kyoto (Fushimi Inari Shrine / Kiyomizu Temple / Kimono Wearing Experience / Kodaiji Temple - Zen Meditation & Green Tea Ceremony / Gion Geisha District - Kyoto Cuisine with Maiko Dinner)

First, we visit Fushimi Inari Shrine – Japan’s chief shrine to Inari, the Shinto deity of economic prosperity, rice, and foxes. This shrine is famed for its hundreds of bright vermillion “torii” gates that form a long pathway around the shrine’s forest landscape; a scene that was made world-famous by the film “Memoirs of a Geisha”. Try to spot as many statues of the fox – Inari’s sacred messengers – as you can while you explore the shrine grounds. We continue from there to Kiyomizu Temple, also known as the Temple of Pure Water, a celebrated landmark famed for its iconic three-story pagoda and large wooden stage which offers dramatic views of the city, bordered by gorgeous cherry and maple trees. The trio of streams pouring from the base of the main hall are each believed to offer a different blessing – a long life, fortune in love, and success with studies. While in the area, stop in a Kimono rental shop to experience trying on a stylish kimono, an item for which the city of Kyoto is famous, to immerse yourself more completely in the local traditional atmosphere. Then, we will travel to Kodaiji Temple, which is a lavish temple built in the memory of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Here, we can experience the time-honored Green Tea Ceremony, a ritual of hospitality once afforded only to nobility. We can also learn Zen meditation, or “zazen”: a discipline practiced by Zen Buddhist monks to gain clarity of mind and insight into the nature of existence. We will end our day in the Gion Geisha District, where its streets are lined with ochaya (teahouses) – exclusive establishments where guests are entertained by Geisha and Maiko. Here, we will enjoy traditional Kyoto Cuisine in the company of a beautiful Maiko – a geisha-in- training.

Tokyo

Tokyo is the number one destination for tourist bound for Japan. It is the number one most populated, the biggest city, and is the capital of Japan. From shopping to sightseeing, this city offers everything that tourist want to see. There are a number of places to see the entire city, tourist can visit the Tokyo Skytree or Tokyo Tower to get a breathtaking view of the city. For shopping, visitors can head to the most popular areas such as Ginza, Ikebukuro’s Sunshine City, or Shinjuku. There are also many museums available such as the Edo Tokyo Museum or the Tokyo National Museum. This modern city still has many parks, temples, and shines for anyone interested in a cultural experience.

The fish market at Toyosu was made to take over wholesale seafood sales from the old Tsukiji Market, and comes with a special observation area where visitors enjoy an unobstructed and comfortable view of market operations. While there, select few may find special courses in Japanese techniques of filleting fish, as well as the time-honored art of making authentic Japanese sushi, which not only immerses guests in these traditional culinary arts, but provides a delicious and healthy seafood lunch.

Nezu Museum

This modern museum was built to house the collection of traditional and Asian artworks amassed by businessman and avid collector Kaichiro Nezu, being founded and opened to the public by Nezu's sonafter his father's passing. The museum includes a permanent collection of traditional paintings, sculptures, ceramics, handicrafts, and more, with an especial focus on Buddhist artworks, and a more prominent exhibit that rotates every month or so.

Edo Tokyo Museum

Excellent museum about Tokyo's history.

The Edo Tokyo Museum is located in Tokyo’s Ryogoku district. The museum features exhibits that showcase Tokyo’s past in the Edo period. Visitors can learn about how people lived during the Edo period, and has many illustrations or miniature models showcasing the past. Guests can take pictures of the many models or life- sized figures.

Asakusa Senso-ji Temple

The Sensoji Temple located in Asakusa is one of the most popular Buddhist temples to visit. The temple was built and completed in the year 645 and is Tokyo’s oldest temple. The surrounding area offers shopping for souvenirs and food. The Sanja Festival is one of Tokyo’s biggest festivals and is held every May at Asakusa Temple.

Tokyo SkyTree

World's tallest stand-alone communication tower.

The Tokyo Skytree is Japan’s tallest structure ever built and the world’s second tallest structure ever built at the time of its completion. Located not too far from Asakusa, this 634 meter tall tower is now one of the most popular destinations for visitors. The main observatory is 350 meters high and the second observation deck is 450 meters high and both offer a breathtaking view of the city.

Imperial Palace East Garden

The garden connected to the Imperial Palace is one the most beautiful in the cty, and was once the private gardens of the Imperial Family. The only part of the Inner Palace open for public enjoyment, the grounds includes some stone walls and tower foundations of Edo Castle - former home of the Tokugawa Shogun, as well as the Suwano Teahouse, and the Museum of Imperial Collections. Within the garden areas, wide variety of trees and flowers planted there provide visitors with scenes of colorful beauty in any season, including not only seasonal favorites like cherry, plum, or maple trees, but species of flowers from all across Japan.

Mt Fuji

The highest mountain in Japan, Mt. Fuji is 3,776 meters above sea level, and is located more or less in the center of Japan, stretching over Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures. Its elegant conical form has frequently been depicted in many paintings and literary works since ancient times. Many artists have been captivated by the diverse expressions shown by this mountain depending on the season, or depending on the time of the day, whether in the morning or early evening. It is widely believed that Mt. Fuji is unparalleled worldwide as a mountain that has so frequently been narrated, sung in verse, and drawn.

Mt. Fuji is a widely-known symbol of Japan. At 3,773 meters, Mount Fuji is Japan’s tallest mountain. “Station (gome)” is the unit representing one tenth of the length from the trail entrance to the top.The fifth station Mt. Fuji is the fifth point from the base at the height of 2,305 meter. Being the end of the Fuji Subaru Line toll road and the highest point that general cars can reach. From the observatory you can see below Komitake Shrine, an ancient place for prayer that has been visited by worshippers and disciplinant, and Yamanaka-ko, the largest lake among the five Fuji lakes.

Hakone

Hakone is located in Kanagawa Prefecture and is only about two hours away from Tokyo. Hakone is park of Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and is a popular destination for tourist. Hakone is famous in Japan for its hot springs and beautiful natural views. Visitors can go to the many hot spring resorts to relax and unwind or visit the many museums and shrines available. Guests that would appreciate nature more could go to the parks and trails to experience the natural beauty.

Hakone Ropeway

One of the most popular ways to get around Hakone is by taking the Hakone Ropeway. The ropeway travels between Sounzan and Togendai. The Hakone Ropeway gives visitors a beautiful view of Hakone and on a clear day, it is possible to get a nice view of Mount Fuji as well.

Owakudani

Sulfurous vapors and warm rivers.

Owakudani is located in Hakone and is an area around a crater where gaseous fumes, hot springs, and hot rivers exist. Just like most of Hakone, on a clear day, it is possible to see Mount Fuji as well. There are hiking trails available for guests, but these trails are difficult for inexperience hikers.

Shinkansen

Japan's main islands of Honshu, Kyushu and Hokkaido are served by a network of high speed train lines that connect Tokyo with most of the country's major cities. Japan's high speed trains (bullet trains) are called shinkansen and are operated by Japan Railways (JR). The shinkansen network consists of multiple lines, among which the Tokaido Shinkansen (Tokyo - Nagoya - Kyoto - Osaka) is the oldest and most popular. All shinkansen lines (except the Akita and Yamagata Shinkansen) run on tracks that are exclusively built for and used by shinkansen trains. Most lines are served by multiple train categories, ranging from the fastest category that stops only at major stations to the slowest category that stops at every station along the way.

Shinkansen (Bullet Train)

The shinkansen (or "bullet train") is a type of high speed train that travels between most of the major cities in Japan. By taking the shinkansen, trips between destinations that might take almost a full day by car can be reached in a few hours. The bullet trains can run up to 320 kilometers per hour (close to 200 miles per hour), and are known to be generally on time, comfortable and safe.

Hiroshima City

Hiroshima is the capital city of the Hiroshima Prefecture located on the western region of Japan’s main island Honshu. This city is unfortunately remembered for its tragic history from the dropping of the atomic bombs, but this modern city is now a top destination for travelers. Many western visitors, especially Americans, feel apprehensive about visiting this city, but it is like any other friendly city in Japan that welcomes tourist. Guests can visit the many museums available, the Hiroshima Peace Park, or Hiroshima Castle, and other popular destinations.

Hiroshima Peace Park

The Hiroshima Peace Park is a memorial park located in the center of the Hiroshima City. Many of the memorials related to the dropping of the atomic bomb are located in and around this area. The park is the location to the memorials such as the A-Bomb Dome, Children’s Peace Monument, and the Peace Memorial Museum. This area is also listed as one of Japan’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Peace Memorial Museum is one of the main destinations for guests visiting the Hiroshima Peace Park. The features the history of Hiroshima, effects of the atomic bomb, and its aftermath. Guests visiting the museum can explore the various artifacts and displays related to the atomic blast.

Miyajima Island

Itsukushima Island, is famously called Miyajima Island and located only an hour outside of Hiroshima and is a popular tourist destination for people visiting the Hiroshima area. It is famous for the large torii gate that seems to be floating on water during high tide (ranked as one of Japan’s top three most scenic views). There are many activities for visitors to explore, there is a temple, museum, walking trails, aquarium, and more to view.

Itsukushima Shrine

One of the most famous and well known shrines in Japan is the Itsukushima Shrine. This location is one of Japan’s top three most scenic places along with the famous Matsushima Bay and Amanohashidate, and brings plenty of tourist every year. This shrine and its famous torii gate are built over the water, which makes it seem like it is floating in the sea. Guests can stay in the ryokan hotels nearby or ride one of the many boat cruises while here.

Senjokaku Hall

Senjokaku Hall is located on the popular Miyajima Island (Itsukushima Island) and originally started its construction in the year 1587 by the order of one of Japan’s famous unifiers, Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This large wooden hall is mostly empty, but is a beautiful place to visit. Next to the hall is a large is a five- storied pagoda that was built before Senjokaku Hall in the year 1407. This location is a beautiful place to view the cherry blossoms during the spring season.

Daisho-in Temple

Daisho-in Temple is located at the base of Mount Misen on Itsukushima Island (Miyajima Island) and is one of the most important temples of Shingon Buddhism. There are many buildings, statues, natural scenery, and other religious objects for guests to enjoy. A hiking trail is also available for those that wish to go to the summit of Mount Misen from Daisho-in Temple.

Mount Misen is located on Itsukushima Island (famously known as Miyajima Island) and is the highest peak on the island. The summit of Mount Misen offers fantastic views of the surrounding area, and on a clear day can provide a distant view of Hiroshima City. There is a ropeway available for visitors to take up the mountain or hiking trails to reach the summit by foot. There are various activities for visitors to enjoy, which include temples, natural scenery, an observatory, and hiking.

Osaka City

Osaka is the second largest city in Japan in terms of size located not too far from Kyoto. This city is one of the top three destinations for tourist visiting Japan after Tokyo and Kyoto. Osaka is the location of the popular Universal Studios Japan, Osaka castle, and Namba. There is plenty to experience in Osaka, from shopping to visiting temples and shrines, Osaka has plenty of destinations to experience Japan.

Osaka Castle

Located in the center of the city of Osaka lies Osaka Castle Park which holds the city’s most popular attraction, Osaka Castle. This castle was originally built in the 16th century, but has been destroyed and rebuilt many times before.
